Job Posting Title
Lead Game Designer
Summary
We are looking for a Lead Game Designer to author, review, and improve feature and content proposals for a world-class mobile game. The ideal candidate is creative with good product understanding: someone that can design systems that integrate well into an existing game within a framework for maximum user impact.
As a Lead Designer, your designs will be shaped by who the players are and what motivates them, and this will be informed by player behavioral and insights data. You'll work closely with other game designers, data analysts and scientists, user experience designers, artists, and narrative designers to create or guide delightful player experiences that incisively align with business goals. You will work across teams to review a high volume of detailed game design proposals that have been generated both internally and from our development partners. This role will report into the studio Game Design Director.
Our team embraces equal opportunity in a serious way and we are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We find that the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
Responsibilities

  • Internalize and evangelize the game vision, particularly with and eye toward long term sustainability and growth by way of delightful and compelling player experiences
  • Collaborate with other discipline leads to shape the roadmap and strategy of game growth
  • Understand complex system and economy interactions and how each new feature will likely affect the overall "sum of the parts"
  • Guide toward feature and content proposals that give a lot of bang for their buck (example: LiveOps templates that can be reskinned or tweaked along thoughtful variables to create a large scale of content using the same core technology)
  • Review many varieties of documentation- business requirement documents, design proposals, and technical design documentation- to provide incisive feedback for improvement and implementation viability.
  • Be a strong but flexible player advocate.
  • Direct and delegate to other team members based on your knowledge of their strengths and passions
  • Diplomatically manage relationships with development partners and help to assess their strengths and weaknesses
  • Take into account information from research groups, such as data scientists and player insights teams when building your designs.
  • Help make requests for data from research groups to ensure your designs are fully informed.
  • Focus on practical, implementable, simple, elegant designs.

Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of directly relevant experience with at least 3 years in a product leadership role at a top mobile games company and a demonstrated track-record of success.
  • Prior experience in a Director of Product role at a top mobile games company.
  • Deep understanding of game development practices, particularly on mobile devices.
  • Experience working at each stage of a game development lifecycle, from concept and pitch to GTM and live ops.
  • Highly expert in the product management discipline with proven expertise developing user stories, writing business requirements & feature specifications, wire-framing, and partnering effectively with UI/UX and engineering teams to make appropriate trade-offs while ensuring excellence in execution.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading teams with ability to attract, develop, and retain top talent.
  • High analytical acumen with extensive understanding of business value drivers in the mobile F2P category.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex analysis and distill complex concepts into the essence of the business impact and player motivation, and clearly articulate them as goals for the game teams.
  • Extensive familiarity with live services strategy/execution with proven ability to develop winning growth plans
  • Experience in revenue forecasting and cost modelling, deriving KPI targets for game teams and well developing advertising budgets
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results
  • Passion for mobile games & the casual games category.
  • Have a creative mindset and ability to communicate clearly and directly.
