Description
Caterpillar’s Integrated Drivetrain Division (IDT) designs and manufactures mechanical and electric drivetrain components and systems used across the full Cat machine product line. As a Drivetrain Engineering Specialist – Design / Project Team Lead, you will have design responsibility for a family of Drivetrain parts and subsystems. You will lead the technical team in planning and execution of NPI, CPI, and production maintenance projects. You will lead the team to identify areas of risk and develop and managed a validation plan to mitigate. You will identify analysis and physical test activities and adapt the technical plan as needed. You will communicate results to the extended teams as appropriate. You will grow into a Drivetrain design expert and identify and lead process improvements.
Job Duties
Drivetrain design responsibility for a family of products (Mechanical and Electric Drive).
Lead technical team to complete Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects
Prioritize and complete detailed design activities.
Collaborate with analysis and development teams to validate designs.
Support creation and execution of technical plans to meet project deliverables.
Collaborate with suppliers and purchasing for component development.
Perform product maintenance including factory support.
Develop & maintain R&D budget working with design team, process partners and Machine Teams.
Communicate and present results to customers, suppliers, team members, and internal clients.
Develop skills of design team including global design support teams, thru coaching, and technical mentoring.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum
Minimum of 7 years of experience in related field
Top Candidates will also have
Previous role a hardware design engineer
Powertrain design, development, or product support experience
Understanding of Drivetrain performance and oil system function
Experience with Electric Drivetrain components and systems
Experience in sleeve and roller bearing selection criteria
NPI and CPI experience
FMEA based validation process experience
Demonstrated ability to use combination of analysis and test to solve problems
Interested in becoming a Drivetrain design Subject Matter Expert
Identifying process or technical knowledge gaps and initiating actions to address them
Proficient in Creo modeling
Effectively works in a team environment, with leadership capability
Strong analytical, organizational, and communications skills
Consistently demonstrates strong initiative

The location for this position is Mossville, IL, East Peoria, IL, or Aurora, IL.
Relocation assistance is available for this position.
This position may require 10% travel
