Senior Design Strategist:
Job Summary

Design Thinking is the disciplined approach of defining and validating problems, the technical requirements of solutions, and the viability of those solutions to deliver and capture value. Design Strategists apply methods to gain new insight into the context behind problems, explore divergent solutions, rapidly validate assumptions through prototyping activities and ultimately define the business case to scale new products or services, which can often require the development of new business models.

At the Center for Health Care Innovation (CHCI), the design strategist team applies these methods to serve our mission to reimagine health care delivery at Penn Medicine, improving the value of care we deliver and how we capture that value. These designers work collaboratively with UPHS faculty and staff on projects that develop new services and technologies that both improve the experiences of patients and providers while improving health outcomes and reducing cost.

The Senior Design Strategist role helps to advise more junior design and non-design CHCI staff and project partners in their work to apply best practices of Design Thinking in the context of health care. This incumbent is leveraged across many projects and helps to operationalize and continuously improve CHCI programmatic initiatives, such as our "Innovation Accelerator Program" and Digital Platforms such as "Agent". In their role, the Sr. Design Strategist communicates and partners directly with UPHS executive leadership to help define innovative strategic priorities and source tactical projects to meet those strategic goals. The Senior Design Strategist leads Center for Health Care Innovation (CHCI) staff and project partners to apply methods of design and innovation to understand a variety of complex problem spaces and define opportunities for improvement. The Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation facilitates the rapid, disciplined development, testing and implementation of new strategies to reimagine health care delivery, improve patient outcomes, patient and clinician experience, and reduce the cost of care. We believe the best way to make big improvements to patient health and health care delivery is to experiment quickly at low cost, only scaling once we find high impact solutions.
