The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. What You'll Do:
  • Will work closely with RF design engineers and R&D technicians to design, develop, fabricate, test, and troubleshoot RF boards in R&D and production settings, requiring a strong understanding of RF and electrical theory.
  • Design and develop engineering models, diagrams, and schematics using various CAD and modeling software tools, including AutoCAD, GerbTool, HFSS, KiCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AWR Microwave Office, and Mastercam. Will also create production released engineering drawings and process plans.
  • Develop and implement design for manufacturability (DFM) guidelines to ensure smooth production processes and high-quality board fabrication, working closely with board vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Perform board layout tasks, including schematic capture, component placement (pick and place), and routing, to create efficient and reliable PCB and PAB designs.
  • Operate specialized equipment such as 3 axis driller routers, presses, reflow ovens, vertical mills and sheet metal fabrication tools.
  • Will utilize X-ray machinery to inspect PCBs and PABs, to verify completed boards for accuracy and conformity to specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership, attending design and other program reviews where a high degree of technical expertise is required, and coaching or mentoring technicians and engineering personnel as necessary.
  • Expected to operate autonomously with minimal oversight, collaborating across multiple mission areas to solve complex technical challenges, drive innovation, and ensure effective communication and coordination across teams.
  • Will work with internal process and revision control tools such as velocity, compass and agile on a daily basis.
  • Occasional travel to vendor and customer facilities may be required.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
  • Safety glasses and other PPE will be provided by the company and required during certain processes.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS/BA in related field plus 2 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
  • A solid overall understanding of PCB and PAB fabrication processes and requirements, including stack-up, inspection criteria will be necessary for this position.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with various service centers, engineering disciplines and technician disciplines.
  • Experience operating 3 axis driller router machines.
  • Experience creating drill and artwork files using autoCAD and Gerbtool.
  • Knowledge on industry standards for board bonding and layup processes, including best practices for caul materials and various adhesives.
  • Ability to perform detailed data analysis and troubleshooting to solve complex problems.
  • Familiarity with space and mission systems process and revision control tools, including agile, velocity and compass.
  • Skilled with various hand and power tools.
  • Experience working with x-ray and other inspection machinery or tools.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift materials up to 50 lbs, and handle repetitive tasks while maintaining high attention to detail.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 standards.
  • Experience working with board and other external vendors.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication and machining.
  • Proven ability to apply cross-disciplinary fabrication skills (e.g., auto mechanics, auto body work, carpentry).
  • Knowledge of RF and electronic systems, including key performance metrics.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $79365 - $134921
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
