The Role:
Within the Specialty Vehicle Programs, we are looking for dedicated and innovative team members to expand our experience base. We have a new project in development and in need of engineering leaders to guide a team of engineers, technicians, and others within the group or outside the group for a common goal.
The correct candidate for this position is highly motivated, creative and wants to be challenged by working in a dynamic environment where his/her experience and passion can be put into practice every day. This role will span from Advanced System Development to Execution (manufacturing). Expectations are high that each member of the Special Vehicle Program team is doing what is needed to execute each step of the process. The right candidate will have experience in Electrical/ Power & Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS), integration, and development of new concepts through production intent design, prototype, testing and production manufacturing. This role requires creativity and a high level of independent judgement. This position requires collaboration with external customers and suppliers and demonstrates flexibility to integrate solutions to meet all requirements.
Qualified individuals are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy and advising management during regular reviews. As a fully qualified contributor the candidate will possess broad technical knowledge, training and understanding combined with creative and independent thinking, as well as conceptual ability to related work performed within their department.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
  • Model and promote desired GM core values and GM behaviors.
  • Create unique and highly integrated technical engineering solutions to address unusual challenges
  • Provide strategic vision to enable solutions related to Electrical/ Power & Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS), and related areas.
  • Lead design release execution for assigned PSDS electrical content, including wiring harnesses, connectors, brackets, and related power/signal distribution components.
  • Coordinate with adjacent functions on electrical architecture, ICD/eSCI interfaces, schematics, and related system integration activities.
  • Leverage established networks (SMTs, Program teams, Suppliers, etc.) to execute the project on time and with quality.
  • Actively communicate with team members to understand challenges, complexities, and issues. Remove roadblocks.
  • Support the customer requirements by defining and executing the system/ subsystem scope.
  • Review functional requirements and provide feedback to stakeholders/ partners to improve clarity or consistency with established engineering strategies.
  • Identify & support opportunities to develop, deploy, and improve processes, quality and reduce cost.
  • Drive prompt issue resolution.
  • Demonstrate the technical mastery of his/her field.
  • Responsible for all Electrical/ Power & Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) and interfaces that are defined and documented including packaging of components.
  • Coordinate creating SOR's and SOW's for all Electrical/ PSDS and execute the design with selected suppliers
  • Coordinate requirements and design reviews with suppliers e.g. GD&T requirements, DFMEA, DRBFM, Peer Reviews.
  • Lead / Direct NX Designers in system development, packaging and integration requirements.
  • Create and maintain Bill of Material and associated key attributes (mass, material, cost, lead time, resource, etc.)
  • Provide technical direction / performance requirements to Supporting Subsystem Engineers, Designers, and Technicians, with a primary focus on total vehicle integration / functionality and assembly
  • Analyze designs using engineering and mathematical principles and tools.
  • Create, review and release math and drawings to Build Shop and/or Suppliers.
  • Ensure hardware prototypes are validated and available for key pre-production vehicle build milestones.
  • Support property builds on-site.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Bachelor of Science - Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other Engineering-related discipline
  • 5+ years of Electrical/ Power & Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) product development experience with demonstrated levels of outstanding performance.
  • Exposure to Electrical/ PSDS development and associated systems.
  • Experience in Automotive Electrical/ PSDS Organization (SMT) and Vehicle Integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete successful projects on time.
  • Ability to manage complex assignments with high levels of composure and effective implementation.
  • Ability to network effectively with key stakeholders, internal and external to GM.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to frame complex issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to identify and remove roadblocks, and ability to solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated technical depth including product and process experience integral to the team's deliverables.
  • Experience in component, system and total vehicle packaging and integration.
  • NX CAD experience
  • Ability to work with salaried internal build shops
  • This position requires a valid security clearance or ability to obtain a security clearance at a level for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. The successful candidate must have eligibility to access classified information at that level.

  • Master of Science - Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 7+ years of Electrical/Power & Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) product development experience with demonstrated levels of outstanding performance.
  • 3+ years of advanced vehicle development experience (pre-VPI).
  • Experience in GM electrical release tools, processes, and documentation workflows.
  • Familiarity with PSDS-specific work areas such as harness design, connector application, DFMEA, ICDe/eSCI, and manufacturing integration
  • 5+ years of Electrical architecture development experience, focused on Power & Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) development
  • Capability in NX, NX Drafting, Teamcenter, and Teamcenter Visualization Mockup (TcVis).
  • Capability in Capital Tool
  • Understanding prototype and production Design and Manufacturing processes.
  • DFSS Master Black belt certification.
