The Opportunity

We’re seeking a visionary Design Manager – Hydraulics to lead the design and delivery of cutting-edge hydraulic systems across a diverse portfolio of civil infrastructure and water projects. From stormwater drainage and sewerage networks to desalination plants and advanced pumping systems, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping sustainable, high-performance solutions that serve communities and environments alike.

In this role, you’ll guide projects from concept to construction, applying your deep technical expertise in hydraulic modelling, P&ID development, and integrated system design. You’ll collaborate across disciplines, ensuring every design meets regulatory standards, environmental goals, and client expectations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design management/Link between CJV (construction team) and AED design and engineering teams

  • Oversee the development of hydraulic design documentation, including reports, drawings, calculations, specifications, and P&IDs.

  • Manage a team towards client requirements and success.

  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers and designers to meet project milestones and client expectations

  • Provide technical leadership in the design of pumping systems, desalination plants, stormwater, sewer, and water supply networks

  • Ensure hydraulic designs comply with regulatory standards, environmental requirements, and project-specific criteria

  • Collaborate with geotechnical, structural, and environmental teams to integrate hydraulic systems into broader project designs

  • Conduct and review hydraulic modelling and analysis using industry-standard software

  • Interface with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve design issues and provide technical guidance

  • Support tendering processes through technical reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering proposals

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Collaborative team player with experience working across multidisciplinary teams, including civil, environmental, and construction professionals, to deliver integrated hydrology solutions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in hydrological modelling, flood risk assessment, and water balance analysis, with a keen eye for detail and technical accuracy.

  • Proven leadership in managing hydrology design teams, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards across multiple Australian states, including South Australia and Victoria.

  • Skilled in planning and delivering hydrology-related work, with effective communication abilities, a solid grasp of HS&E standards, and proficiency in tools such as XP-RAFTS, TUFLOW, HEC-HMS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
