At Walden Robotics, we envision a world where general-purpose robots dramatically improve the quality of life for all people—supporting us at home, at work, in factories, on farms, and beyond. To accomplish this, we are building a team of exceptional professionals who combine world-class technical skills with creative vision, grounded in humility and collaboration.

Position Summary:

The Deployment Engineer will support the successful deployment, operation, and maintenance of robots in real-world environments. This role is hands-on and field-oriented, with responsibility for bringing up systems, troubleshooting issues, performing repairs, and helping ensure robots are ready for reliable operation in customer and internal settings.

You will work closely with Robot Operations, Hardware, and Software teams to identify issues in the field, document failures clearly, and help drive practical improvements to deployment readiness and serviceability. This role is well suited for someone who is technically strong, enjoys working directly with robot hardware and software, and wants to own a customer deployment end-to-end: the technical outcome, the on-site relationship, and the case for expanding to new processes.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the dedicated robot operations team owner for an enterprise customer deployment, from site readiness through steady-state operation and expansion to new processes
  • Support robot deployments in field and production environments, including setup, checkout, troubleshooting, maintenance, and recovery
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and systems-level issues in deployed robots, owning issues through resolution and escalating with a clear diagnosis
  • Execute repairs, rework, and component replacements on robots and related equipment
  • Document field issues clearly, including symptoms, context, likely causes, and actions taken
  • Provide project management support and shift-level triage and direction of active deployment site operations work
  • Contribute to and develop deployment documentation, service procedures, checklists, and operational playbooks
  • Partner with Hardware, Software, Product, and Operations teams to communicate field learnings and support improvement efforts
  • Help validate deployment readiness for new features, hardware changes, and system updates
  • Track recurring issues and reliability concerns, and help identify practical opportunities to improve robustness and serviceability
  • Support inventory, tools, spare parts, and service readiness for deployments and ongoing operations

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience supporting, maintaining, testing, or deploying complex electromechanical systems in the field, in production, or in a lab environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, sensors, actuators, and basic system integration
  • Ability to troubleshoot across hardware and software boundaries in a structured and practical way
  • Experience using common tools, test equipment, and repair processes safely and effectively
  • Ability to write clear technical notes, issue reports, and procedural documentation
  • Strong judgment, attention to detail, and ability to stay organized in fast-moving environments
  • Comfort working independently while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time and ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with robots, autonomous systems, industrial equipment, or other complex fielded hardware
  • Familiarity with Linux-based systems, logs, command-line debugging, or basic robotics/software tooling
  • Experience supporting customer-facing deployments or on-site technical operations
  • Exposure to root cause analysis, failure tracking, or reliability improvement processes
  • Experience improving technician workflows, documentation, or service procedures
