Layer (Module) Ownership:

  • Drive defect reduction/yield improvement projects for your layers
    • Identify top pareto items impacting defect density
    • Identify improvements and collaborate with the workcentres to drive to completion
  • Use SPC (Statistical Process Control) to monitor and control inline defects throughout the product lifecycle
    • Maintain appropriate control limits to be able to flag genuine issues, while preventing false OOCs.
  • Excursion detection, fast response and containment, and prevention
  • Inspection recipe maintenance and improvement to ensure low nuisance detection and high capture rate of defects of interest

Required Skills:

Root Cause Analysis:

  • Investigate complex technical challenges to identify the underlying causes of defects or yield loss
  • Requires strong analytical skills and the ability to apply creative problem solving and critical thinking to a problem
  • Excellent data analysis skills are a must: use of Klarity Defect, SAS, jmp, and ACE to datamine large data sets with complex interactions
  • Design of Experiment to facilitate problem solving
  • Use of Python a bonus

Statistical Process Control

  • Requires a deep understanding of the fundamentals of SPC to maintain inline defect charts with correct control and spec limits, and identify and respond quickly to shifts in the population
  • Good understanding of Statistics in general

Process Integration and improvement:

  • Strong knowledge or a willingness to learn about the different process flows
  • Understand how different layers and process tools interact with each other – the importance of establishing good process window
  • An ability to read and interpret wafer cross sections: FIB, SEM, TEM, EDX
  • Ability to perform SEM & FIB analysis a bonus

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with process engineering, equipment engineering, product engineering,  manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure defect issues are resolved quickly with robust fixes in place to prevent reoccurrence
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to bring people along
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to explain a complex problem clearly and concisely are a must

Defect Reduction/Yield Improvement

  • Use of ACE for Defect-Yield correlation
  • Identify top pareto items impacting yield, and creative solutions to improve
  • Project management is a key skill to be able to drive Defect Reduction projects to completion in timely manner
  • Ability to scope out a project and set realistic timelines
  • Bring the right people on board and work with them to achieve project goals
