Purpose and Scope:
Develop decision sciences models (e.g. simulation, optimization, machine learning etc.) to provide optimized decision recommendations to PDM functional units. Engage with stakeholders to deploy models and insights. Sustain and evolve models in alignment with changing functional needs based on latest algorithms and technologies.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Decision Sciences Model Build
- Translate business requirements into Decision Sciences model selection and specifications
- Develop PoC/MVP to evaluate and optimize model performance (e.g. accuracy, quality of decision recommendations etc.)
- Work with business stakeholders and data teams to validate model and generate model deployment plan
Decision Sciences Full Stack Application Build
- Provides technical architecture recommendations to application developers to create full stack solution around the model.
- Build code components to integrate model with inbound data pipelines and user interfaces.
- Work with IT teams to ensure optimized data flow and infrastructure performance
- Support application technical testing and roll out to business users.
Decision Sciences Model Lifecycle Management
- Train business users on how to use model based applications for various decision scenarios
- Monitor model performance on a regular basis based on business user feedback.
- Identify and prioritize ideas for model performance improvement.
- Roll out new versions of model and applications with SDLC framework.
New Capabilities & Benchmarking
- Continuously monitor latest algorithmic developments by scanning publications, conferences etc.
- Run small experiments with new generations of algorithms to evaluate them.
- Identify promising models for application to Astellas use cases specifically relating to supply chain management, manufacturing & logistics
Required Qualifications:
Education
- Master’s degree in Industrial, Systems or other Engineering disciplines with focus on Operations Research
Experience
- 3–7 years of experience in applying OR/decision sciences models to applications in supply chain
- Experience in manufacturing, logistics, or global supply chain environments (especially related to pharmaceuticals or healthcare) is an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in large scale mathematical optimization (e.g. integer programming, non-linear programming etc.), discrete event simulation, time series models, machine learning etc.
- Strong proficiency in Python (advanced) and SQL. Hands on coding experience is a must
- Strong proficiency with open source optimization libraries such as Pyomo and commercial solvers such as Gurobi or Cplex
- Experience with open source or commercial discrete event simulation packages such as Simio, Anylogic etc.
- Experience with data platforms such as databricks, snowflake etc.
- Experience in integration of LLM APIs (e.g. GPT) within applications is a plus
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and supply chain planning tools (e.g. IBP)
- Understanding of end-to-end supply chain processes (planning, procurement, manufacturing, logistics).

- Strong ability to operate in complex business environments and translate requirements into technical specifications.
