Description

The Dean of Students works with colleagues to facilitate the formation of St. Edward Central Catholic High School students in alignment with the mission, National Standards and Benchmarks of Effective Catholic Schools, and the integral student outcomes. The Dean of Students makes proactive decisions that seek to balance the needs of individual students with the needs of the rest of the St. Edward community. These decisions are made within a progressive educational community that strives to know and support individual students in their developmental context while consistently holding them accountable for their behavior and utilizing restorative practices contributing to long-term growth. 

The Dean of Students is responsible for managing a number of high school systems, including disciplinary programs and campus supervision. 

The ideal candidate for the Dean of Students position will display a willingness to promote Catholic ideals and culture and have experience within an independent or Catholic School setting. He or she will demonstrate experience and expertise with student supervision, program management, and working with students and parents. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience as well as a developmental sensitivity and understanding of adolescent pyschology.   

  • Makes mission-aligned decisions that uniquely further our school culture and that create a greater realization of deeper life with God and with one another
  • Partners with administrators, coaches, parents, and the teaching faculty and staff to support students in feeling safe and valued within a culture of care and accountability where the nature and quality of their decisions deeply matters
  • Supports day-to-day academics through monitoring classes and lunches, personal availability, and superior communication skills with adolescents and adults
  • Oversees the daily order and day to day management of the students. Daily routine includes dress code, detentions, recording of discipline items
  • Manages and monitors campus supervision daily including breaks and lunch, as well as at some co-curricular events.
  • Meets with students regarding issues related to behavior; follows up with parents, teachers, counselors; determines and implements appropriate consequences with restorative practices in mind; monitors behavior contracts.
  • Oversees all policies regarding student conduct and updates the Parent-Student Handbook content yearly with the help and advice of administrators, teachers, and staff
  • Utilizes student information system online to accurately record all incidents
  • Upholds confidentiality expectations at all times
  • Meets regularly with the Student Services Department and Student Support Team to strategize about students as related to behavioral difficulties and assist in developing programs to promote positive behavior.
  • Chaperones student dances and other student events as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with Deans of other similar institutions to share best practices.
  • Helps build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in school religious and service activities, and monitoring liturgies.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Education, administration, or related field preferred with 3+ years relevant school administrative experience.
  • Three years experience at the high school level in teaching or administrative capacity
  • High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy; the ability to handle families with grace is a must.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. Must be able to discern among competing priorities.
  • Positive, creative, solution-oriented temperament
  • A positive faith life, able to apply to this to the tasks of the job.
  • Working knowledge of a student database software
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
  • Availability to work after school hours and special events as needed.  

This is a part-time position requiring no more than 28 hours per week with daily schedule to be determined. The hourly rate of pay is commensurate with experience and could range from $20.00 - $26.00 per hour.
