SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to lead our dealership accounting office. The ideal candidate will have the experience and accounting background to serve as our Dealership Controller; however, we are also interested in experienced dealership Office Managers who are ready to take the next step in their career.

The Dealership Controller / Office Manager is the day-to-day leader of the dealership accounting office and is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing the accounting team, overseeing dealership accounting processes, and ensuring timely completion of monthly financial statements.

This position reports directly to the CFO and works closely with dealership management and department leaders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and develop the dealership accounting team
  • Oversee the monthly accounting close and preparation of financial statements
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accounts are properly reconciled
  • Review accounting schedules and ensure outstanding items are researched and resolved timely
  • Oversee bank reconciliations and cash controls
  • Oversee vehicle deal processing, title work, accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Monitor vehicle inventory, floorplan and related reconciliations
  • Review manufacturer and other dealership receivables
  • Maintain strong internal accounting controls and ensure dealership transactions are recorded accurately
  • Work closely with dealership management to identify and resolve accounting issues
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all dealership accounting functions and provide backup and support when necessary
  • Train, develop and cross-train accounting team members

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 years of previous accounting experience – automotive background is preferred, but not required
  • Experience with month and year-end closing
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and account reconciliations
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive, professional and team-oriented leadership style
  • Comfortable learning and working in modern, technology-driven accounting systems
  • We operate on Tekion, a cloud-based automotive dealership management system. Previous Tekion experience is a plus, but we will consider candidates with experience on other dealership management systems or strong technology skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.

COMPENSATION: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications

Skills Required

  • At least 5 years of accounting experience
