We are looking for a highly experienced Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) with deep expertise in MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch to own and support mission-critical database platforms serving enterprise SaaS applications. This role is not suitable for candidates with only development or basic DBA experience. The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience designing, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing large-scale production environments containing millions of records, supporting 24x7 high-availability systems with strict uptime SLAs. The engineer will independently diagnose complex database failures, perform failovers, optimize performance under load, ensure business continuity, influence technical direction, and mentor junior engineers.
ResponsibilitiesDatabase Design & Architecture- Architect and implement scalable, high-availability MongoDB solutions including replica sets, sharded clusters, Atlas deployments, and disaster recovery architectures.
- Design, implement, and manage MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch environments across development, staging, and production.
- Define schema design standards, sharding strategies, indexing approaches, data lifecycle management, and capacity planning.
- Own 24x7 production database operations with accountability for uptime, reliability, and SLA compliance.
- Diagnose and resolve complex database incidents, execute failovers, recovery activities, root-cause analysis, and business continuity procedures.
- Lead rolling upgrades, patching, migrations, and maintenance with minimal or zero downtime.
- Analyze query patterns, design optimal indexes, tune aggregation pipelines, and eliminate bottlenecks.
- Monitor performance metrics and drive continuous improvements using profiler, explain plans, Atlas tools, and observability platforms.
- Optimize high-volume databases containing millions of records and heavy workloads.
- Implement RBAC, TLS/SSL, encryption, LDAP integration, auditing, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Ensure enterprise-grade database security, resilience, and operational governance.
- Define database best practices, review data models, and provide technical leadership.
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with development, platform, SRE, and DevOps teams.
- 8–12 years of database engineering, DBRE, DBA, or related experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on MongoDB production support experience.
- Deep expertise in replica sets, sharding, Atlas, replication, failover, query tuning, and aggregation framework.
- Strong PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch administration and performance tuning experience.
- Experience managing databases supporting enterprise SaaS applications and millions of records.
- Cloud experience on Azure, AWS, or GCP and strong Linux administration skills.
- Programming experience in .NET, Java, Python, JavaScript/Node.js, or similar technologies.
- MongoDB Certified DBA or Developer certification.
- MongoDB Atlas Vector Search, time-series collections, Ops Manager, or Cloud Manager experience.
- Experience with Kafka, Spark, Redis, Elasticsearch, Azure Cosmos DB, and database migrations.
- Background in SaaS, telemetry, IoT, or large-scale enterprise data platforms.
