The Role

A Systems and Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and improving an organization’s computer systems, servers, and databases. The role ensures that technology runs smoothly, data is secure, and users have reliable access to the tools they need.

Key Responsibilities
    •    Manage, monitor, and maintain servers, databases, and system infrastructure.
    •    Install, configure, and update operating systems, software, and database tools.
    •    Ensure data security, backup schedules, and recovery procedures are properly implemented.
    •    Troubleshoot system and database issues to minimize downtime and maintain high performance.
    •    Monitor system performance metrics and optimize configurations when needed.
    •    Create and maintain documentation for systems, configurations, and processes.
    •    Manage user accounts, access permissions, and security controls.
    •    Work with internal teams to support applications and ensure systems meet business requirements.
    •    Perform regular audits to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
    •    Support system upgrades, migrations, and integration projects.

Requirements
    •    Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux, or both).
    •    Experience with database management systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
    •    Knowledge of networking fundamentals and system security practices.
    •    Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and database issues.
    •    Familiarity with backup and recovery strategies.
    •    Good documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
    •    Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
    •    Relevant certifications (optional but helpful), such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft, or database-related certifications.
