Summary for the position
The Contract Database Administrator will guide the migration of legacy data flows, databases, and ETL pipelines into the client's modern data architecture. The DBA will play a key role in ensuring that data from legacy systems is securely, accurately, and efficiently migrated into the Data Repository, which is built on Microsoft Fabric. This role requires both deep technical expertise and a strong understanding of data governance, security, and performance optimization.
Location: ON-SITE. Working hours are based on 10 AM to 7 PM Asunción-Paraguay.

Job Description
Key responsibilities and tasks:
Specific Initiatives
- Migration Strategy & Planning
- Assess current legacy databases, data flows, and ETL processes.
- Design migration plans to transition legacy systems into modern platforms (e.g., cloud databases, data warehouses, lakehouses).
- Collaborate with architects, data engineers, and business stakeholders to align migration activities with organizational goals.
Database Administration & Management
- Administer and maintain both legacy and modern databases during the migration process.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize queries, indexes, and data models.
- Ensure security, access control, and compliance requirements are met throughout the migration lifecycle.
Data Migration Execution
- Build, test, and implement migration scripts and tools.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and accuracy during migration.
- Manage rollback and recovery processes for migration risks.
Modern Data Platform Enablement
- Transition legacy ETL jobs into the organization metadata framework and orchestration methodologies (Microsoft Fabric Data Copy jobs, Python Notebooks).
- Establish documentation and runbooks for ongoing administration in the Data Repository.
Collaboration & Support
- Partner with App Dev and the Data teams to ensure downstream data availability and reliability.
- Provide technical guidance on database best practices and optimization.
- Support business continuity by minimizing downtime and ensuring smooth cutover from legacy to modern systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in database administration in legacy systems (SQL Server, SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Reporting Services, Windows Scheduled Tasks.)
- Proven hands-on experience in migrating databases and data pipelines to modern platforms (cloud-based or lakehouse solutions), with Azure Data Factory as a core tool for ETL/ELT workflows.
- Advanced Python skills and experience are essential for this role.
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance standards.
- Strong skills in SQL performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, and backup/recovery.
- Familiarity with MS Fabric is a great plus.
- Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
