The Job At-A-Glance:
Q2 is seeking a SQL Database Administrator to join the Database Operations Team. This team is responsible for the operation and delivery of Q2's customer facing Software as a Service (SaaS) and custom hosting products. This position will be responsible for performing daily operational processes and troubleshooting events, as well as fulfilling customer requests for database services. This role will be working alongside Database Engineers and Database Reliability Engineers and there is opportunity for the right candidate to advance beyond this role.
A Typical Day:

  • Perform monitoring, administration, repair and maintenance of the SQL databases within the customer hosted environments.
  • Actively contribute to the configuration, layout and performance tuning of the production infrastructure.
  • Respond to service requests and troubleshoot issues as needed .
  • Assist with customer implementations and upgrades.
  • Support requests for unscheduled Database backups and restores.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly meetings.
  • Participate in rotating 24x7 "on call" support coverage for data center related issues.
  • Perform maintenance related activities during scheduled weekend maintenance windows.
  • Create and update existing documentation of processes and procedures in support of administration tasks.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all security, availability, confidentiality and privacy policies and controls are adhered to.
  • Participate in capacity management, expansion and growth planning.

  • A successful candidate must have excellent critical thinking skills. A big part of this role will be diagnosing issues that may not have happened in the past and they will be expected to investigate, understand, and come up with solutions to resolve them.
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in (relevant degree) and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with 3+ years of experience; or equivalent related work experience.
  • Ability to detect and troubleshoot database-related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space, and other resource contention issues.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and Windows.
  • Knowledge of AWS and Azure a plus.
  • Must be able to exercise judgment within defined procedures to determine appropriate action.
  • Must have strong organizational and multi-tasking skills to prioritize workload in a fast paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Agile Development Practices.
  • Knowledge of various high availability and disaster recovery solutions (AlwaysOn, Clustering, etc)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Certifications or an interest in pursuing certification is a plus.
