We are seeking a hands-on Senior Database Administrator with deep expertise in PostgreSQL and MySQL. You’ll design, deploy, maintain, and optimize highly available, scalable database systems. Familiarity with SQL Server, MongoDB, and cloud-native database services (AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, Azure Database) is a strong advantage. Candidates with database migration experience (on-prem → cloud or cross-cloud) will be given preference.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Design & Maintenance
- Architect, configure and maintain PostgreSQL and MySQL instances in production
- Define schemas, indexing strategies, partitioning, and sharding as needed
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Implement and manage replication, clustering, failover, and backup/recovery solutions
- Develop and test disaster-recovery plans and runbooks
- Performance & Optimization
- Monitor query performance, tune SQL, and optimize configurations
- Collaborate on capacity planning and cost-optimization initiatives
- Migrations & Upgrades
- Plan and execute migrations (e.g., on-prem to cloud, between cloud providers)
- Lead version upgrades, schema changes, and data transformations
- Monitoring, Security & Automation
- Implement monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.), alerting, and logging
- Define and enforce security best practices (access controls, encryption)
- Automate routine tasks and deployments using Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar tools
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Development, DevOps, and Data teams on schema design, ETL pipelines, and query tuning
- Document database architectures, standard operating procedures, and runbooks
Requirements
- ≥ 3 years managing PostgreSQL in production
- ≥ 3 years managing MySQL in production
- Cloud Platforms: Hands-on with AWS, GCP, or Azure managed database services (e.g., RDS, Cloud SQL)
- Core Skills:
- Advanced SQL (indexing, query optimization, partitioning)
- Backup & recovery strategies, replication, high-availability configurations
- Scripting/automation (Bash, Python, Ansible, etc.)
- Migrations: Proven track record of database migration projects (e.g., PostgreSQL → cloud, MongoDB → Atlas, SQL Server upgrades)
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with additional databases (MongoDB, SQL Server, Neo4j, other NoSQL)
- Experience with ETL tools, BigQuery, or data-warehousing concepts
- Certifications in PostgreSQL, MySQL, or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Exposure to DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
