Job Summary
Join an entrepreneurial team of professionals who provide critical support to the Healthcare Professional Liability Underwriting organization focusing on three key areas: underwriting strategy, operations and data-driven analytics. Functions of this role include driving strategic initiatives in support of key priorities, partnering with operational leaders to create efficiencies by streamlining underwriting processes and procedures, building complex dashboards and datasets for various stakeholders (underwriters, senior leadership team, etc.), establishing metrics, and providing insightful data analyses in support of the Healthcare Underwriting team needs. A successful candidate will have strong communication and analytical skills, with excellent business acumen and the ability to manage competing priorities in order to ensure delivery of high-quality outputs and make impactful data-driven, strategic recommendations.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Helps facilitate execution of underwriting strategy and initiatives to ensure key priorities are achieved (e.g. building project plans, tracking execution, maintaining communication with project teams, meeting management, notes taking, slide deck preparation for the project team meetings)
- In collaboration with responsible stakeholders, helps drive efficiency across underwriting processes and procedures to address the needs of underwriters and meet the demands of CNA insureds and distribution partners (e.g. reviewing and updating underwriting guidelines, job aids, product forms, etc.)
- Works with various data sources to perform moderately complex modeling for the purpose of quantifying the performance of the business area and evaluating operational changes.
- Reports findings to senior consultants and may make recommendations to management (e.g. responding to data request from management, identifying the right source of data, pulling the data, conducting analysis and presenting to management for discussion) Interprets data and identifies relevant analyses, monitors trends over time and provides actionable insights that support the active management of the business area.
- Builds datasets, constructs data visualizations/dashboards and prepares reports for underwriters and leadership. Determines possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.
- Identifies opportunities to leverage new IT solutions in support of analytics and reporting objectives.
- Collaborates, as needed, with business partners in Distribution, Legal, Risk Control, Actuarial, Claims, Operations and Compliance.
- Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction; provides informal guidance to new team members. Responds to and fulfills ad hoc data requests in support of Healthcare team and leadership.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Typically Director or AVP.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Solid knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, financial and economic concepts, which may include healthcare professional liability (preferred).
- Solid project management skills and strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage work deliverables/projects effectively.
- Solid knowledge of applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Tableau and other business related software.
- Knowledge of Alteryx, Qlik, Salesforce, and enterprise-level policy production systems is a plus. Proficiency with SQL,nowledge of R and Python a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem solving skills with ability to effectively resolve moderately complex situations and issues.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team, manage time and resources to accomplish multiple tasks, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority based on data analyses and insights.
- Ability to adapt to change and value diverse opinions and ideas.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, or related field.
2. Typically a minimum of four years of related work experience.
