About you:
Convoy's Network Efficiency team, which is responsible for optimizing the routes for our carriers and trailers to maximize productivity and is looking for a Senior Operations Research Scientist with experience in optimization and machine learning. This team member will own development, deployment, and analysis of models for one of our fastest growing new products that creates consistent schedules for drivers and to help balance allocation of Convoy’s trailers across our marketplace. They will also be responsible for delivering inference from our data to understand the dynamics of the trucking market and to recommend enhancements to our product that will delight our customers. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of post-PhD experience building models in a production environment and using statistical and operations research analysis to drive high-impact business decisions.
You will:
- Design, Build, and Analyze Statistical Models to Answer Business Questions.
- Evaluate the impact of product design choices using prediction and optimization
- Analysis of Marketplace and Supply-Side Dynamics
- Experimental Design, Deployment, and Analysis in a Production Environment
- Present Findings, Business Insights and New Product Ideas to Senior Business Leaders
We’re looking for someone who has:
- PhD in Operations Research, Economics, Finance, or highly related field
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a dynamic business environment
- Minimum of 5+ years of post-PhD experience
- Experience operating as a team science lead as either an individual contributor or manager
- Strong technical programming ability with an emphasis on R and/or Python
- Intelligent but practical; you want to get things done and love simplicity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- You are comfortable interacting with technical and non-technical audiences
- You are a leader and will speak up where needed
- You have a habit of bias-to-action
Nice to haves:
- Strong background in statistical analysis to solving business problems in a tech-driven environment
- Breadth of skills to related technical disciplines such as machine learning or causal analysis
- Experience building and deploying models and experiments in a production environment
- Past experience working in a cross-functional environment, interacting with engineers, product, finance, and other job roles
- Strong research and publication track record
