We have an important role opening for Senior Data Engineer in the Database and Middleware Services group.
Viable Locations are in these cities/states MN Twin Cities, Hartford, CT, Raleigh, NC or US Telecommuter.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide primary support for UnitedHealth Group Oracle databases
  • Plan and design new Oracle implementations, including database definition, structure, documentation, and long-range requirements
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to perform in all of the basic database management skills of database administration, web connectivity, physical structure, overall architecture, and database analysis
  • Design storage strategies and establish standards for complex database environments, physical structures, and specialized database applications
  • Provide standardization and consistency across environments
  • Ensure a stable and secure database environment
  • Apply database management consulting skills and gathers user requirements
  • Provide on-call support and answer severity calls, problem resolution
  • Design, implement, and monitor database functionality to ensure stable environments
  • Uphold enterprise policy guidelines and recommend new and improved guidelines
  • Identify and initiate resolutions to user problems and concerns associated with database server equipment (hardware and software)
  • Identify potential service-level problems before they occur

Required Qualifications:

  • BS Degree (or 10+ years of related work experience in technology)
  • 8+ years of overall experience or more with Oracle or Microsoft SQL or Oracle databases (solid preference in a production support role)
  • 5+ years of experience with DBMS and DB monitoring and tuning
  • 5+ years of server optimization and consolidation
  • 3+ years or more Proven SQL tuning experience
  • 5+ years of knowledge of the UNIX Server platform
  • 3+ years of experience in installing s/w for that platform
  • 3+ years of experience in writing SQL queries
  • 2+ years of experience of leading large database tasks
  • 1+ years of experience working within virtual platforms
  • Experience supporting experience in 7x24 support rotation
  • Knowledge for any of middleware technologies (Jboss, Apache, Wildfly, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with a systems development or project methodology
  • Experience working with remote teams
  • Experience with Clustering, High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions
  • Experience in PostgreSQL databases
  • Effective verbal communication skills and documentation skills in both business and technical areas
  • Solid organizational skills to handle changing priorities, tight schedules, and correction of critical systems outside of normal working hours
  • Proven ability to maintain leading edge skills in a rapidly changing and fast-paced Information Systems environment
  • Work independently with little or no supervision

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
