What you'll do...
Walmart is the largest retail corporation in the world and the Smart Forecasting team in Replenishment Org is disrupting and revolutionizing the establishment by being more data driven in their analysis and integrating Machine Learning algorithms in building the next generation Inventory Forecasting system. We extend our reach to 4000 stores across US and international markets supporting the replenishment systems to drive better on shelf availability and at the same time help reduce wastage on perishable items, thus saving Walmart a few billions of dollars. The sophistication afforded by machine learning algorithms allows for more segmentation, which allows for more detailed and descriptive insights. In attempting this, we are also reshaping the attitude of the business towards adopting and trusting ML to be most impactful based on the amount of historical data and investment required.
The challenge of employing ML techniques in retail at such a wide scale, across varied categories of items, presents a great opportunity for creative solutions. The Smart Forecasting team tackles this task and its problems at multiple fronts.
The goal of this team is to build a next generation inventory forecasting system, leveraging algorithms and models that can process and learn from these huge datasets to make actionable predictions and recommendations.
Your Responsibility:

• Write efficient and quality code that can work @ Walmart scale
• Adopt Walmart's quality standards and develop and recommend process standards and best practices across the retail industry
• Research, learn & adapt new technologies to solve problems & improve existing solutions
• Contribute to engineering excellence backlog.
• Identify performance issues.
• Effective code and design reviews.
• Improve reliability of overall production system by proactively identifying patterns of failure.
• Leading and mentoring junior engineers by example.
• End-to-end ownership of stories (including design, serviceability, performance, failure handling)
• Strive hard to provide the best experience to anyone using our products.
• Conceptualize innovative and elegant solutions to solve challenging big data problems.
• Engage with Product Management and Business to drive the agenda, set your priorities and deliver awesome products.
• Be responsible for on-call support on a need basis.
• Adhere to company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity

Minimum Qualifications:

• Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
• Option 2: 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
• Option 3: Master's degree in Computer Science and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related field. 2 years' experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Computer Science or related field and 4 years' experience in software engineering
• Data engineering, Distributed Systems, NoSQL, Orchestration frameworks (2 - 4 years)
• Deep understanding in Big Data Ecosystem using Hadoop(M/R), Apache Spark and working with large data sets in the cloud (2- 4 year)
• Good understanding of cloud native application architectures (Azure / GCP)
• Expert coding skills in Java (4- 6 year)
• Ability to independently troubleshoot Spark jobs (2- 4 year)
