About the role
We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help us improve our data warehouse and data lake to better support streaming data, faster materialized views and rollups, and customer facing analytics and data transformations.
With over 100 million installations over the past 12 months, the Radar mobile SDK generates 100's of millions of api calls per day. Making sense of this data at scale is a core part of what Radar does. This role will support online streaming of core Radar data into data lake platforms and also offline pipelines to manage 100's of TB of data.
This mode of work would be ideal for an engineer that's interested in acquiring new skills. We find it to be more efficient and interesting than being siloed in a single stack. We also have a collaborative engineering culture that allows you to learn new and complex things from your team and vice versa. You'll face exciting scaling challenges, working in a small team with lots of autonomy and impact.
You will report to our CTO.
What you’ll do:
- Work with data lakes and data warehouses to support real-time streaming of core Radar data,
- Create customer facing analytics infrastructure that allows customers to build charts, rollups, run queries and glean insights from their Radar usage.
- Improve on our offline Places pipeline built in Airflow and Scala to ingest and harmonize heterogeneous point-of-interest data to support Radar's PlaceRank and real-time Place detection logic.
- Continuously search for solutions that have 80% of the impact, but 20% of the cost.
You should have:
- 5+ years of engineering experience
- Deep understanding in 1-2 of the following areas: Airflow, Spark, Athena, Redshift, Streaming or Batch oriented data processing
- Experience in writing and debugging ETL jobs using a distributed data framework (such as Spark, Kafka, or Flink)
- Your own unique talents – we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the qualifications
You’ll work with:
- Tim Julien, CTO
- Craig Kochis, Engineering Manager
- Jeff Kao, Staff Engineer
- Our Software Engineering team!
Perks:
- Remote friendly
- Competitive compensation package and equity plan
- Medical, dental, and vision plans with 100% premiums covered for you
- 401(k) plan with employer match
- Flexible work hours and vacation policy
- Free CitiBike membership (if based in tri-state area)
- Monthly fitness reimbursement and wellness programs via Classpass and Gympass
