As a Scientist, your main responsibility will be evaluating the performance of our products via in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro studies, supporting the business of our customers and stakeholders a a part of the R&D Surgical Evaluations team in Fort Worth, Texas.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Providing expertise in intraocular device (IOD) research: study design, protocol development and execution, data analysis, modeling, interpretation, and reporting
  • Applying various approaches and strategies to evaluate the IOD's safety and effectiveness, supporting the discovery, characterization, validation, and verification of novel therapies
  • With guidance, performing experiments, troubleshooting issues, evaluating data, generating reports, and presenting data at internal forums
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams on assigned projects, serves as SME and influence design & development strategy based on scientific data
  • Staying current on literature and technological advances, contributes ideas that promote current research
  • Prepping animal and/or human tissue, assists surgeon as the surgical assistant
  • Propagating and maintains in vitro mammalian cell cultures
  • Conducting cell/tissue culture assays
  • Supplying technical advice and counsel to peers, may teach techniques to others
  • Assisting in general laboratory management and maintenance
  • Managing lab supply inventory and places order as needed

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +8 yrs; Assoc.+4 yrs).
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English.
  • Full time academic or industry laboratory experience required.
  • Good knowledge in ophthalmology, biology, biostatistics, and related fields required.
  • Previous training and hands-on experience with in vivo and ex vivo study required.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Previous ophthalmology research experience preferred.
  • Good understanding and practice of GxP preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent scientific writing ability, strong oral communication skills, and attention to details.
  • Highly motivated self-starter and problem-solver with a demonstrated ability to adapt quickly and work independently, being flexible with assigned tasks/projects.
