*Securian Financial Groups internal position title is Customer Operations Analyst.

Position Summary:

Provides administration support and servicing of defined benefit retirement plans. Primarily responsible for calculating retirement benefits in accordance with plan provisions, preparing benefit election packages and engaging in day to day contact with plan participants and plan sponsor clients. Partners with the Account Manager (Sr. Pension Analyst) to ensure that good customer relations are maintained, and that plan participant and client requests/issues are resolved fairly and effectively.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Prepare retirement benefit calculations and illustrations for defined benefit plan participants, beneficiaries and alternate payees in accordance with plan provisions
  • Communicate directly with participants to address benefit election questions, educate on payment options, acquire proper paperwork and coordinate election with the plan sponsor client
  • Process benefit elections and distributions; ensure all items are processed accurately and within standards
  • Coordinate beneficiary designation and QDRO service; notify the appropriate beneficiary/alternate payee for distributions pursuant to death/divorce
  • Collaborate with Account Manager to troubleshoot and address system and data updates as required to administer the plan
  • Coordinate mailings and other projects to support the administration of defined benefit plans



Qualifications:

  • 1 year of customer service experience in related industry
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Analytical/mathematical mindset



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or demonstrated ability to learn administration of defined benefit plans; including understanding of retirement plan provisions and processes
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook; ability to learn new systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate complex plan design and benefit features
  • Strong background in mathematics with excellent analytical, problem-solving, research, and data analysis abilities
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and on a small client team

Physical job requirements:

  • Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  • Ability to utilize telephone for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to perform grasping tasks throughout the entire work day (examples: handwriting, grasping of equipment/machines, paper manipulation, sorting, folding, handling stacks of paper)
