Gopuff is a high-growth startup that is revolutionizing hyper-local e-commerce. We warehouse and deliver thousands of products to your door super fast. We're currently operating in over 500+ cities within the US and expanding quickly.
As a Data Scientist on the Gopuff Search team, you'll tune our search retrieval, create ranking models, and develop query understanding techniques so that we can show the perfect products to answer a user's query. You'll have the opportunity to make a huge impact on the future success of Gopuff.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with our search infrastructure to refine our notion of relevance between a product and a query.
• Build re-ranking models which can take advantage of data that lives outside of our search index -- for example to achieve personalization of search results.
• Use natural language processing techniques like shallow parsing and named entity recognition to go beyond the text of the query to understand the intent behind it so we can better serve results.
• Productionize and deploy models using cloud based tech stacks including Snowflake, Databricks, Azure and Elastic cloud.
• Partner with the search product team to shape the next versions of search on goPuff.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in data science
• MS or PhD in statistics, mathematics, analytics, computer science, engineering or another quantitative field
• Hands-on experience using a search system such as elasticsearch, lucene, solr etc.
• Expert programming skills in Python and Java.
• Data querying skills in SQL
• Experience deploying models in a production environment
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms to business stakeholders
• Ability to rapidly create prototypes and also convert them into production quality code.
