Alcon is looking to hire a Data Architect to support our technology systems architecture organization in Fort Worth, Texas. In this role, you will utilize your expert level skills and knowledge to define and deliver data solutions and to contribute to the development and implementation of IT plans in line with the overall data strategy of IT and the business. As the Lead Architect on major data programs, you will manage a team of data specialists (including mentoring and coaching) and:

  • Lead the data design of solutions for large projects and programs; through expert knowledge translate high-level business requirements into data models and appropriate metadata
  • Manage senior business stakeholders to secure strong engagement for the solution and ensure that the delivery of the project aligns to longer-term strategic roadmaps
  • Lead a collaborative team while working with other areas within Data and Analytics to ensure that all solutions are complete, operable, conform to business processes, and meet the business needs with the agreed quality of service
  • Ensure the end-to-end solution is fit for purpose, meet the needs of business, the agreed requirements, and are both pragmatic and supportive of the strategic architecture direction
  • Lead and participate in the peer review and quality assurance of project architectural artifacts across EA group through governance forums. Report key architecture decisions and implications to the architectural governance forums



Additional Responsibilities:

  • Identify and communicate appropriate resource requirements and work breakdown structure based on skills profile and best fit to complete the end-to-end solution design, and work with the project manager to ensure that project plans and finances align with the design
  • Develop conceptual, logical and physical data models to support data analysis and business intelligence
  • Create and maintain current- and target-state data architectures
  • Define and manage standards, guidelines and processes to ensure data quality, security and compliance.
  • Work with IT teams, business analysts and data analytics teams to understand data consumers' needs and develop solutions



Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +15 yrs; Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 7 Years of Relevant Experience
  • 5 Years of Demonstrated Leadership



Preferred Requirements:

  • 10 years of experience with Entity Relationship modeling, metadata systems, data quality tools and techniques
  • Experience in data cataloging, data warehousing, data modeling and/or data analysis
  • Experience in working with enterprise systems and their data models. (e.g. SAP, Salesforce.com, ServiceNOW )
  • Ability to relate architectural decisions and recommendations to business needs and experience in working as part of Agile teams and using agile and collaboration tools like Jira, Confluence.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and work with diverse project teams



Preferred Technical Requirements:

  • Knowledge of master data management, data cataloging, data integration and database development techniques. Experience with TIBCO EBX is a plus.
  • Experience with database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB)
  • Experience with ETL and other business intelligence tools.
  • Experience developing reference architecture, principles and standards
  • Experience working on Big Data Platforms and Data Lakes as well as experience or knowledge of technologies and services related to Data and Analytics.
