Position Description

This position will be a member of the data analytics team in the Southern Company Services, Fleet Strategy, Performance and Reliability department supporting the Power Delivery Condition Based Maintenance program. This role will use advanced analytics and visualizations for gaining insight into equipment health, performance, and maintenance using time-series, work management, and related data. The trends, analyses, models, and equipment dashboards will be leveraged by the Operations Monitoring and Diagnostics Center for detecting and troubleshooting equipment issues and contribute to the Power Delivery asset planning and maintenance objectives.

WORK LOCATION:

This position will be based in Birmingham, AL; however, flexible scheduling is offered with some virtual opportunities. Successful candidates must be willing to travel to office and/or field locations on a routine and as-needed basis. This position will require a mix of in-person work at the Energy Center Office in Birmingham as well as some travel to Power Delivery office and asset locations across the Southern Company service territory.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)

  • Bachelor of science degree in engineering, computer science, or a 2-year or 4-year technical degree is required.
  • Field experience in Power Delivery maintenance and support, plant operations or engineering, or similar manufacturing processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience related to the reliability or performance of Power Delivery assets such as transformers, batteries, breakers, switches, dissolved gas analyzers, and bushing monitors is preferred.
  • Experience in OSIsoft PI System development & implementation is preferred. This includes PI Asset Framework (AF) templates, PI Vision and Graphics, PI Analytics (Rollups and Event Frames), PI Datalink, PI Builder, PI Integrator for Business Analytics, and PI Notifications.
  • Experience performing data integration from various sources, data mining, cleaning, and modeling is preferred.
  • Experience in data visualization techniques through business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or related tools is preferred.
  • Problem-solving ability through the development of data science algorithms, models, analytics, utilizing tools such as R, Python, or related programming tools is preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create OSIsoft PI asset framework hierarchies, implement, and troubleshoot analytics including calculations, event frames, and roll up calculations.
  • Support effective reporting & data analysis across all Work Management & Asset Condition Monitoring tools.
  • Interface with Power Delivery, internal engineering departments, Operation Monitoring & Diagnostics Center, and the Technology Organization to identify and implement improvements needed in data analysis tools and processes.
  • Actively participate in internal and industry user groups to stay abreast of latest visualization tools and analytic techniques. Test, validate, and implement improved processes for the fleet.
  • Establish ongoing relationships and effectively communicate with all levels of plant and corporate employees and management, vendors, peer groups, and subject matter experts.
