Job Summary:
NRG is seeking a Competitive Intelligence & Strategy professional with excellent analytical and interpersonal skills to join NRG Business' Competitive Intelligence and Strategy team. This is a high visibility position that will work with multiple departments and large data sets on energy transition markets and opportunities. The candidate will lead projects that will help NRG's leaders understand the competition and the evolving energy market, respond to transition, and win in the market. They will build on the team's understanding of the competitive landscape by developing and delivering analyses and insights related to businesses, competitors, and the ecosystem. They will also work with the leadership in the organization, to support the intelligence and analytics needs of the organization and to inform the strategic choices. In addition, they will frequently collaborate with the corporate development and innovation teams assisting them with analysis and market opportunities.

The candidate must be capable of cross-organizational collaboration with regular communication on progress. Individual must be able to handle multiple, competing priorities and solve problems with efficiency. Success in this position will require excellent project management, time management and presentation skills. The position reports to the Sr. Manager, Competitive Intelligence and Strategy.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop subject matter expertise and deliver deep thinking related to NRG's businesses, competitors, and the Energy (Power, Gas and Decarbonization) industry
  • Scoping, managing, and executing projects that provide information and insight responsive to leadership needs
  • Research and analyze data on market trends, new market opportunities / directions, and competitive moves to inform business strategy
  • Develop detailed competitive and market views through compilation of data from multiple sources including primary and secondary market research, sales, marketing, and internal / external data sources
  • Develop and implement market intelligence system and competitive assets including newsletters, internal communications, and customer facing documents that generates actionable business, articulate our competitive positioning, and provides early alerts for market changes
  • Design and execute analytic programs-including open-source research, interviews with subject matter experts, and quantitative research-that support those projects
  • Leading team to gather and analyze information and develop presentations, coaching team members to superior performance
  • Manage internal and external research projects, including external research vendor selection, project management, research design and methodology, interpretation of results and communication of findings to various groups and executives
  • Extrapolate findings into insights and recommendations for opportunities to improve and differentiate NRG Business' offerings by creating compelling market analysis presentations
  • Build related business case(s) to quantify the impact of new opportunities within the business.
  • Translate data and information into compelling insight stories that drive business decisions and growth.
  • Proven sensitivity toward confidentiality and an understanding of all requirements and corporate policies and guidelines that impact legal and ethical conduct and competitive intelligence practices
  • Respond quickly to ad-hoc data requests
  • Other duties as required



Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university: Business, Strategy, Economics, Market Research or related and 7 or more years of relevant work experience required for candidates which possess a Bachelor's degree


OR

  • MBA or 5 or more years of relevant work experience required for candidates which possess their MBA.
  • Experience in competitive intelligence, consulting, strategic marketing, strategic planning, or consumer/sales insights.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel is required
  • Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.



Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA degree from an accredited university is preferred
  • Experience in energy industry (retail power and gas, decarbonization) is a plus
  • Candidates with experience supporting strategy development strongly preferred. Foundational knowledge of emerging technologies and landscape (Power, Gas, Decarbonization, Renewables etc.) and experience with financial models is strongly desired.
  • Working with macros and VBA as well as other reporting BI tools is desired



Working Conditions:

  • This position can be remote however Houston, TX, Austin TX or Princeton, NJ is preferred.
  • Limited travel (less than 20 percent)



Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess highly developed organizational and planning skills
  • Candidates must be self-starters, able to work independently with minimal direct supervision and comfortable operating in virtual environments. The CI&S team is mostly remote, with members and clients in multiple regions of the US
  • Creative business problem solving by analyzing situations and applying critical thinking to resolve.
  • Strong storytelling and communication skills and the ability to influence senior levels of the organization and cross-functional teams.
  • Self-starter with a bias for action and results orientation. Able to prioritize, focus, and execute through obstacles. Innovative thinker with analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment, able to complete time-sensitive assignments.
  • Work experience must include experience with storyboarding and messaging for different stakeholder groups, preparing and delivering executive presentations, and project management
