EG are on the lookout for a data and customer-orientated Data Scientist to help us further cement our position as the UK’s leading provider of real estate intelligence.

Our opportunity is for an established data professional to help drive innovation within our data & analytics portfolio. As our very first data scientist, you will play a leading role in shaping and growing EG’s data science function.

• You will choose the optimum tools and technologies that will continue to help differentiate EG as the industry’s data partner and technology pioneer.
• You are a champion when it comes to integrating disparate data sets and using deep analytics to uncover actionable insights. You will assist with ideation, prove hypotheses and use sophisticated predictive models to drive our products forward and fuel ground-breaking new ones.

Responsibilities:

• You will be a key team member within EG’s analytics product development squad. Your ability to succeed in your role will be supported by a data engineer and real estate domain experts. You will also be able to share ideas with an existing Data Science community that expands across all RELX businesses
• Create scalable statistical and analytical models based on the combination of current and future data sets
• Work with the product team to understand user goals and requirements alongside stakeholders and customers
• Work with the business teams to produce data visualisations and insight reports for both internal and external clients
• Summarise and communicate conclusions and solutions to analytic and non-analytic stakeholders
• Identify new data and analysis opportunities and recommend acquisition of appropriate datasets

Your Technical skills:

• Wide experience with data analytics, data correlation, statistical algorithms, databases, data regression, and scripting languages
• Experience in machine learning, data visualization, and data manipulation tools
• Knowledge of managing, manipulating and transforming data from a variety of sources, both structured and unstructured data
• Experience in one or more data extraction and querying tools such as SQL, Spark, Hadoop, HPCC or similar
• Excellent at one or more standard programming/analytics languages, such as R, Python, ECL, Julia, Matlab or similar
• Knowledge of sentiment and text analysis
• Experience of statistical and machine learning methods applied to predictive data analysis; both supervised and unsupervised learning

Your work experience and academic achievements:

• Experience of working in a corporate data and analytics environment or proven track record of academic research involving relevant data science, data analysis, and statistical tools and methodologies
• A strong background in a quantitative/analytical discipline, with a relevant degree preferred

Year one goals

• Understand the range of internal and external datasets, schemas and structures so they can be integrated and applied to client problems
• Test hypothesis for several product concepts that have been pre-identified to solve customer problems
• Help shape and influence the success of the analytics product development squad
