Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.

At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.

A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.

WHY DATA SCIENCE & ANALYTICS?

The Data Science & Analytics organization’s mission is to increase our speed, frequency and acumen of making decisions at scale by instilling a data-influenced approach to building products. We cover a wide area of the data spectrum including analytical data engineering, product analytics, experimentation, causal inference, statistical modeling and machine learning. Aligned and partnering with product verticals, we use this extensive tool belt to discover new opportunities and unmet use cases, influence and shape the product roadmap and prioritization, build data products and measure impact on our community of players and developers.

WHY ENGINE?

The Engine team is missioned to build world-class elastic game engine technology that powers engaging experiences. We build the core technology that powers our 3D worlds including audio/video/voice chat, rendering, simulation, networking and systems. As a Senior Data Scientist, you’ll partner with engineers, product managers, technical program managers, and leaders across the company in our efforts to continually improve the quality and performance of our game engine and the user generated content that runs on top of it. Your work will touch various parts of the engine, from voice chat, audio API, UGC video to various performance optimizations. You will define KPI’s and measure the impact of key features and improvements, while discovering areas of opportunity through dashboards, analysis and A/B experiments.

You Will:

  • Establish success metrics for multimedia products in engine. For example, what voice chat quality metrics matter to the end users? How are Engine performance impacting user engagement and monetization?
  • Operationalize and scale metrics monitoring. Build dashboards that enable quick slice and dice as well as root cause analysis. Work with engineers to detect and investigate abnormal trends. Identify opportunities to improve.
  • Understand how audio, video, voice chat and more contribute to building a fast, scalable and engaging experience through the game engine. Optimize user experience from the Engine perspective by improving the performance and quality of these factors.
  • Navigate ambiguity and collaborate with stakeholders across various organizations including Engine, Growth, and Creator teams.
  • Access raw data, and then transform it, analyze it, and render it in a compelling way - all using a custom analytics tool kit built from state-of-the-art open-source libraries.
  • Use A/B experiments and causal inference to determine success of product feature launches. Understand the heterogeneous effects introduced from a diverse set of platforms and devices and UGC content.
  • Influence how Roblox provides a better experience for the community of players and developers.

You Have:

  • Advanced and/or equivalent degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Math, Economics, Engineering or other related quantitative fields
  • 4+ years of relevant industry or relevant experience, preferably with background in game engine, audio/video/voice chat, infra, system performance, etc.
  • Strong data engineering experience. e.g. telemetry logging, data pipeline building, dashboard design
  • Demonstrated ability to drive an area as an individual contributor and thought leader
  • Ability to apply creative first-principles reasoning to solve ambiguous problems
  • Ability to communicate analytics results and data storytelling to influence engineering teams and leaders
