In this position, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. Right now, our Combat Mission Systems team is seeking a Data Scientist Intern for summer of 2026 at either our Sterling Heights, MI or York, PA or Stafford, VA locations. Relocation will NOT be offered and housing is not provided
As a Data Science Intern, you will work on a variety of projects that involve extracting insights from data, building predictive models, and helping our team make data-driven decisions in support of a variety of business areas including engineering, finance and manufacturing. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside seasoned professionals and gain practical experience in the field of data science in support of the defense industry.
As a Data Science Intern you will:

• Collect, clean, and preprocess data for analysis.
• Build and evaluate machine learning models.
• Perform statistical analysis to uncover trends and patterns.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs.
• Assist in creating data visualizations and reports.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions
• Present your development status and final products including training materials for use and interpretation

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program pursing a degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or similar with Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing
• Microsoft Office Suite (Powerpoint, Word, Excel)
• Basic understanding of machine learning concepts and algorithms.
• Familiarity with data analysis tools and languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
• Familiarity with dashboarding tools such as Power BI or Tableau
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• Completion of Junior Year pursuing a Data Scientist/Analytics Degree
• School project or work experience buiding dashboards in Power BI (desktop or service version)
• School project or work experience in business analysis and understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs)
• School project or work experience in presenting approach, useage, and value of dashboard they have built and tested.
• Within driving distance of York, Sterling Heights or Stafford facilities.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $46437 - $62721
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
