Data Scientist - Economics (m/f/d)

Our data science team builds and operates the machine learning systems that power vehicle pricing and valuation across our marketplaces and dealer platforms. These systems influence how vehicles are priced, traded, and valued across multiple products and markets, powering products used by millions of users across our platforms. 

As Data Scientist, Economics, you will build and operate the machine learning systems behind these pricing and valuation capabilities. Working with large-scale marketplace and transaction data, you will develop models that generate reliable vehicle price estimates and support B2B, B2C, and C2B vehicle transactions across multiple markets. 

This is a hands-on role where you design, build, and operate machine learning and GenAI systems that run in production and matter to the business. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, and business teams across AutoScout24, AutoProff, LeasingMarkt, and Trader to translate marketplace challenges into scalable ML-driven products. 

At AutoScout24, we actively adopt AI and GenAI approaches where they create meaningful product impact. In this role, you will apply GenAI techniques where they improve valuation systems - for example by extracting signals from unstructured vehicle data or enhancing feature generation. 

What You’ll Do 

• Build and operate machine learning models supporting vehicle pricing and valuation across our marketplaces and dealer platforms 
• Contribute to the group’s cross-market valuation framework supporting B2B, B2C, and C2B vehicle transactions 
• Translate marketplace signals such as vehicle attributes, transaction data, and supply–demand dynamics into robust modeling approaches 
• Own models end-to-end in production — from problem framing and modeling to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement 
• Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to integrate ML systems into scalable product platforms and APIs 
• Apply GenAI techniques where they improve modeling pipelines, such as extracting signals from unstructured vehicle data 
• Monitor model performance and continuously improve reliability, accuracy, and product impact 
• Work with large-scale marketplace data across multiple countries and markets in Europe and Canada 

You Bring 

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Econometrics, or a related quantitative field — or equivalent practical experience 
• 2+ years of experience building machine learning or quantitative models, with experience deploying models in production environments 
• Strong hands-on expertise in Python and modern ML frameworks 
• Experience deploying models via APIs and working with AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure 
• Solid understanding of machine learning methods, evaluation, monitoring, and MLOps practices 
• Exposure to GenAI techniques, such as embeddings, retrieval-based systems, or LLM-based applications 
• Interest in marketplace dynamics, pricing, or valuation problems, and the ability to translate these into quantitative models 
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders 
• Curiosity, ownership mindset, and drive to continuously improve systems and products
