The Opportunity
Root is seeking a Data Science Manager II to lead data science in relation to our Digital Partnerships business. This team owns the performance of Root's digital rated aggregator partnerships, a rapidly evolving channel that sits at the intersection of customer acquisition, pricing, underwriting, product development, and partner strategy.
In this role, you will own the quantitative strategy and performance of a multi-million-dollar business while leading a team of data scientists and cross-functional partners. You will work directly with cross-functional leaders to identify growth opportunities, improve acquisition economics, and shape long-term strategy.
The ideal candidate combines strong quantitative instincts with business judgment, thrives in ambiguous environments, and is motivated by turning analysis into measurable business outcomes.
Salary Range: $210,000 - $275,000 (Eligible for competitive bonus and equity offering)

How You Will Make an Impact
- Own the performance, growth, and profitability of Root's digital partnerships portfolio.
- Lead a team of quantitative scientists responsible for experimentation, forecasting, optimization, and partner performance management.
- Develop strategies that improve customer acquisition economics through pricing, underwriting, partner integrations, and commercial levers.
- Build rigorous measurement frameworks that quantify incrementality, partner value, and business impact.
- Partner with Business Development, Product, Engineering, Pricing, Underwriting, and Finance to identify and execute high-impact opportunities.
- Influence product and technical roadmaps to improve partner performance and operational scalability.
- Deliver executive-level reporting, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Establish scalable operating processes that enable sustainable growth across the channel.
What You Will Need to Succeed
- Advanced degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or another quantitative discipline.
- 7+ years of experience applying quantitative methods to complex business problems.
- 2+ years of people leadership experience, including managing and developing technical talent.
- Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous business challenges into analytical frameworks, strategic recommendations, and measurable outcomes.
- Experience leading experimentation, forecasting, optimization, or machine learning initiatives in production environments.
- Strong business judgment and comfort making decisions under uncertainty.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience influencing senior stakeholders.
- Strong ownership mindset with a track record of driving initiatives from concept through execution.
Nice to Have
- Experience owning or influencing P&L outcomes.
- Experience in insurance, financial services, marketplaces, or customer acquisition.
- Familiarity with attribution, incrementality measurement, or partner optimization.
- Experience working closely with pricing, underwriting, or risk management organizations.
- PhD in a quantitative discipline.

An early iteration involved 24 screens in the customer experience flow—that experience is now just three straightforward steps.
