Join ASML’s Applied Data Science team, where we develop AI and machine learning solutions that enhance the performance and reliability of advanced lithography systems. Our work combines technical expertise with domain knowledge to create data-driven algorithms for calibration, diagnostics, and predictive maintenance. This internship offers you the opportunity to explore cutting-edge transformer models and their role in optimizing semiconductor manufacturing processes.
You will explore multimodal transformer models and apply active learning techniques to improve defect classification in lithography tools. Your work will help ASML adapt models to unseen defects and optimize decision-making in production processes.
Your main responsibilities will be:
Evaluate multimodal models for defect classification and assess their generalization capabilities.
Fine-tune models on diverse datasets using active learning to improve image classification.
Integrate process-specific data sources to develop predictive models for production optimization.
Validate your findings with domain experts and incorporate feedback.
Deliver well-documented code and clear reporting of your results.
This is a master’s internship for a minimum of 6 months, 5 days per week (3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of February 2026.
To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are enrolled in a master’s degree in computer science, data science, applied mathematics, or applied statistics.
Have strong programming skills in Python and preferably have experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).
Have experience with Matlab, image classification and/or Databricks is a plus.
Demonstrate an analytical and proactive mindset with attention to detail.
Communicate effectively in English, both spoken and written.
Other requirements you need to meet:
You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

What We Do
ASML is a high-tech company, headquartered in the Netherlands. We manufacture the complex lithography machines that chipmakers use to produce integrated circuits, or computer chips. Over 30 years, we have grown from a small startup into a multinational company with over 60 locations across Europe, Asia and the US.
Behind ASML’s innovations are engineers who think ahead. The people who work at our company include some of the most creative minds in physics, electrical engineering, mathematics, chemistry, mechatronics, optics, mechanical engineering, computer science and software engineering.
Because ASML spends more than €2 billion per year on R&D, our teams have the freedom, support and resources to experiment, test and push the boundaries of technology. They work in close-knit, multidisciplinary teams, listening to and learning from each other.
