The Deal by With Intelligence is seeking a driven and intellectually curious M&A Researcher based in Sofia, Bulgaria, to join our award-winning newsroom. This hybrid position focuses on sourcing exclusive, early-stage M&A intelligence through high-volume email outreach and interviews with company founders, executives and owners across the private markets. Researchers play a key role in identifying actionable story leads and supporting the broader newsroom's coverage of dealmaking activity. This position offers a clear path for high performers to progress into conducting interviews and writing original, bylined news stories.
Key Responsibilities:
- Email Outreach & Source Development: Initiate strategic, high-frequency email outreach to private company executives, founders, and investors to uncover actionable intelligence and build relationships.
- Interview Support: Assist in preparing and coordinating interviews with decision-makers, including researching targets, drafting questions and tracking follow-ups.
- Pipeline Tracking: Maintain organized records of outreach, responses, and lead status; surface patterns and tip-offs to the editorial team.
- Collaborative Research: Partner with senior reporters and editors to investigate private companies, uncover proprietary insights, and support exclusive news coverage.
- Editorial Growth: Researchers who show strong sourcing skills and editorial instincts will have the opportunity to conduct interviews and contribute original stories under editorial guidance.
- Given the U.S.-focused nature of our coverage, the role requires availability during off-hours aligned with the U.S. Eastern Time zone.
Requirements
- Professional fluency in English is required.
- Strong writing and email communication skills.
- Confidence to conduct research calls in English to subject matter experts.
- Research-oriented with curiosity about business, finance, and private capital markets.
- Highly organized and capable of managing multiple threads of outreach simultaneously.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, journalism, communications or a related field would be an advantage.
- Willingness to work off-hours to align with U.S. East Coast business hours by working Monday - Friday 12pm-8pm EEST
