Data Privacy Manager

We are seeking an experienced data privacy compliance specialist to join our dynamic and growing team. This role presents a unique opportunity to be a part of an expanding compliance function, offering significant development and progression opportunities as the company scales its operations globally.

Reporting to the Head of Legal and Regulatory Compliance, you will lead Picklebet’s privacy function by advising on data privacy matters and managing the end-to-end privacy program. In the rapidly changing privacy landscape, you will handle cutting-edge and novel privacy issues in a strategic manner amidst a fast-paced environment with deadline-driven objectives.

Responsibilities include:

• Develops a deep functional understanding of Picklebet’s business direction, data assets and information flows across the company.
• Take ownership of the data privacy compliance framework to refine and uplift privacy standards across Picklebet to embed consistent, effective privacy practices into business processes and product designs.
• Analyses privacy risk in conjunction with other regulatory risks and provides solution-oriented, practical advice to Picklebet.
• Helps solve complex problems by working closely with product and engineering teams to design products that process data in accordance with applicable privacy laws, ensuring Privacy By Design requirements are embedded in products, services and business arrangements.
• Serves in a leadership role for privacy compliance, developing, updating, implementing, and reviewing privacy policies and procedures, monitoring for compliance as well as facilitating and ensuring initial and ongoing privacy training and orientation to all staff.
• Engages and works with others in dealing with data protection authorities and policy makers in responding to inquiries from global, federal and state regulators.
• Oversees compliance with our incident response processes, which includes scoping and performing privacy risk assessments, mitigation, remediation and reporting of data incidents.
• Interfaces with the business to develop strategic plans for the collection, use and sharing of information in a manner that maximises its value while complying with applicable regulatory obligations.
• Participates in the implementation and ongoing compliance monitoring of vendors and third parties, to ensure privacy concerns, requirements and responsibilities are addressed.

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in handling complex privacy, data protection and security issues with excellence.
• A demonstrated thought leader that will develop and drive our global strategy around privacy.
• Experience with online privacy, cloud computing and analytics, data strategy and governance in an online consumer goods or services industry.
• Experience building strong partnerships and educating about complex regulatory schemes across legal, compliance, technical infrastructure, product management and marketing, and other internal teams.
• Strong substantive knowledge of Australian privacy laws and OAIC guidance, including emerging trends, and a working knowledge of international privacy and data protection laws such as the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
• Fluency with key privacy regulators and relevant policymakers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including prior experience negotiating privacy/security provisions and disclosures for commercial contracts.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous situations and provide practical real-world guidance to the business.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
• Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues.

• Certification Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or equivalent data privacy certification.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Finance, Commerce or a similar discipline.
