Data Platform Reliability Engineer

Our team is fully remote, the company has always been remote. We communicate regularly using video chat and Slack and put a strong emphasis on asynchronous work so people have large chunks of uninterrupted time to focus and do deep work.

• You are experienced in operating and improving the reliability of data storage and processing systems (relational databases, data warehouses, data lakes, and distributed processing systems), including operational optimization (e.g. indexes, query tuning, monitoring).
• You’re familiar with stream processing and have worked with tools like Kafka or Kinesis, or you're eager to learn more about them.
• You’ve had some experience with setting up and managing data processing systems in AWS or GCP, and you're comfortable using tools like Terraform or Ansible.
• You enjoy working with Python and have an understanding of how to maintain ETL jobs, such as using Airflow or similar tools.
  Experience with the AWS data ecosystem is highly appreciated (Amazon Aurora MySQL, DocumentDB/MongoDB, OpenSearch/ElasticSearch, Redshift, Glue/Spark, MSK/Kafka, Kinesis, Debezium, S3/Apache Hudi, MWAA/Airflow.

• Operate, improve, and extend ShipHero’s data infrastructure.
• Support engineering teams in enhancing the performance of reports, searches, and other data services.
• Collaborate within the Platform Team to address performance and reliability challenges in data infrastructure.
• Optimize both relational and non-relational databases for performance and scalability.
• Automate infrastructure management through code for consistency and scalability.
• Rotative On-call rotation 24x7.
