We are building a practical data-platform pilot for an industrial group: enabling automated, governed data flows between core planning, trading and reporting systems at one of the group's sites, starting with a high-value inventory-to-logistics use case.
We are looking for a Data Platform Engineer to build the technical foundation for this pilot. Your main task: connect and automate data flows between the client's planning, trading, forecasting and ERP systems, while embedding data classification and access control into the platform from day one.
What You'll Do
- Analyse the client's current system landscape (planning tool, trading tool, forecasting tool, ERP, invoicing) and map out manual data-transfer points
- Design and build the initial pipeline connecting these systems for a single priority use case (linking inventory levels with outbound logistics)
- Automate the highest-friction manual steps first, such as customer-nomination intake and the planning-to-trading interface
- Implement a tiered data classification scheme and role-based access control via the client's identity management system
- Build ETL processes using the client's existing SQL Server / C#/.NET / SSIS stack
- Validate pipeline outputs against live operational data and stakeholder feedback
- Document the architecture, governance model and lessons learned, and prepare a template for rollout to a second site
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on experience building ETL pipelines and integrating heterogeneous systems (ERP, trading, or logistics tools a plus)
- Working knowledge of SQL Server, Git, and RBAC/data governance concepts (e.g. Active Directory/Entra ID)
- Comfortable working directly with business stakeholders across IT, Logistics, Sales and Finance
- Familiarity with cloud-based architectures and on-prem/cloud hybrid environments
- Independent worker who enjoys solving clear technical problems
- Valid work permit
Nice to Have
- Experience with industrial or process-manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with BI tools (PowerBI) and Excel-based reporting workflows
- Interest in data governance, compliance frameworks (e.g. BSI/NIST-aligned), or critical-infrastructure settings
Benefits
- Start: asap
- Duration: approx. 3 months (initial pilot phase), with possibility of extension
- Workload: flexible, ideally 40–60%
- Salary: CHF 43+ per hour (depends on qualification)
- Location: hybrid/remote possible
- Language: English required, German a plus
