As a Data Governance Lead you will bring your natural passion for working with and delivering data solutions to a team that enables data-driven HR strategy for the Walt Disney Company. In this role, you will primarily ensure the usability of data assets by leveraging a community-centered approach to facilitate governed, single-source-of-truth data definitions and data cataloging approaches aligned to business use cases. This role requires knowledge of data governance principles in practice, a solid understanding of how data is architected in an enterprise, strong communication, and the ability to facilitate, collaborate and influence multi-functional stakeholders to consensus in a way that enables HR's data-driven strategies.
Job Summary
The Data Quality & Governance team develops and maintains tools and processes which support data management, access & environment management, policy compliance, data stewardship, and delivery of accurate data. The team works with stakeholders from across HR to ensure data requirements are clear, well documented, translated into technical requirements, validated for accuracy & business usability, and effectively communicated back to stakeholders throughout the implementation process. Additionally, the team has critical partnerships with Legal, Privacy, Information Systems, and Data Engineering to ensure the storage, handling, and usage of data is compliant with company standards and global laws.
Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Champion enterprise data fluency and data stewardship via a Data Governance Committee and other business stakeholder forums. This includes facilitation of governed data definitions, ongoing socialization of best practices for business usage of data, and creation of data discovery tools, processes, and/or training.
  • Partner cross-functionally with business stakeholders, Business Analytics, Data Science, Data Engineering, and Product Design team members to develop and document detailed data and product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success measures
  • Be a hands-on project lead who manages the implementation of a data or product enhancement from discovery to delivery, inclusive of technical exploration to inform requirements or test options with stakeholders
  • Develop and sustain documentation, a data dictionary, and a data cataloging approach that supports ease of discovery, understanding, and usage of proper data for intended business use case
  • Define governance metrics that track progress on adoption of tools or programs, and which highlight areas of opportunity for enhancement


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, Analytics or related field or 8+ years equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of experience in data management/governance, data engineering, technical project management, business intelligence, or analysis-based environments
  • 3+ years of success leading complex analytical projects and/or developing innovative solutions with multi-function stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships across functions and inspire trust and confidence through effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and creative problem-solving skills that enable turning stakeholder vision and requirements into tactical outcomes in a way that meets best practices while supporting efficient project delivery
  • Strong written and oral communication skills that translate across technical and business domains
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, R or other scripting languages and experience working with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms
  • Experience with governance tools (Alation, Collibra, Informatica), agile tools (JIRA, Confluence, Git), or other communication tools that enable discovery and usability of data
  • Familiarity and experience working with Data Governance programs, covering data standardization, cataloging, metadata standards, and data stewardship
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing and integration architecture, inclusive of experience working with cloud platforms and data warehouses in large data environments
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced operational environment where change is the norm


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Management, or relevant technical field
  • Experience with visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Cognos)


The hiring range for this position in Burbank is $124,900.00-$152,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
