About the role:

As a Data Engineer at J4RVIS you will design, build, and maintain data solutions on modern cloud data platforms for our clients. The current engagement is Snowflake and dbt led, with hands-on work across pipeline development, dbt model refactoring, data validation, and rolling out new datasets for downstream analytics and AI use cases.

You will operate in a client-facing environment, take ownership of workstreams end-to-end, and work directly with business stakeholders to understand the why behind the data, not just the what.

What you will do:

• Design and build ELT pipelines in Snowflake using dbt as the transformation layer.
• Refactor legacy SQL and dbt models for performance, readability, and testability.
• Run data validation and reconciliation across source and target datasets.
• Own warehouse sizing, role and access design, and cost control in Snowflake.
• Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into data models, including pushing back when the request does not make sense.
• Lead workstreams without heavy supervision and operate as the go-to data engineer on your project

What we are looking for

Must-have experience

• 5+ years in data engineering, business intelligence, data migrations, or database development on relational platforms.
• At least 2 years of hands-on production Snowflake work. Real delivery only: warehouses built or migrated, performance tuning, role-based access design, cost optimisation. Certifications without project evidence will not qualify.
• At least 12 months of hands-on production dbt work. Models built and tested, macros, incremental strategies, deployment in production. Fundamentals certifications without project evidence will not qualify.
• Strong SQL fundamentals, including window functions, CTEs, query optimisation, and debugging poorly performing queries. You should be comfortable refactoring SQL you did not write and reconciling discrepancies between datasets
• Proficiency in Python for data engineering and automation.
• Experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP), including security, performance, and cost considerations.

We need someone who can take a requirement and run with it. That means leading workstreams, owning pipelines end-to-end, and working in small teams or as the sole data engineer on an engagement. Candidates whose experience has been exclusively ticket-driven with heavy supervision are unlikely to be a fit.

Our clients value engineers who engage with the business, not just the spec. You should be comfortable running requirements gathering sessions, asking why a dataset is needed, and translating fuzzy business questions into clean data models. Product-minded thinking is a strong signal.

You will be in front of clients regularly. Clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to translate technical decisions into business language, are non-negotiable.

Fivetran or other ingestion tooling experience.

Power BI or other BI tooling exposure.

Data Vault modelling alongside dimensional modelling.

Exposure to a second modern data platform such as Databricks or Azure Synapse.

Experience in consulting or professional services environments.

Our process includes a phone screen, a technical interview covering Snowflake, dbt, and SQL fundamentals, and a short take-home or live exercise focused on refactoring a dbt model and validating two datasets against each other. The take-home exists to surface real working knowledge rather than memorised certification content.
