Job Summary:

Reporting to a technology leader at CaterTrax, the Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, deploying, and maintaining scalable, AI-powered data pipelines and analytics solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Azure data services. This role is critical in operationalizing AI as the primary method of development across CaterTrax’s enterprise data ecosystem—enabling intelligent automation, predictive analytics, and real-time insights that drive impactful business decisions.
This is a hybrid position located in Rochester, NY

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design, build, and optimize robust data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory, driven primarily by AI tools and copilots.
  • Develop and manage Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards, including embedded AI visualizations and natural language querying (e.g., via Copilot).
  • Integrate and deploy AI/ML models and services (e.g., Azure Machine Learning, OpenAI, MLflow) directly into data workflows for use cases such as anomaly detection, forecasting, and intelligent classification.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to research and plan data architectures using AI-generated recommendations and models.
  • Monitor and optimize data system performance using AI-assisted diagnostics, Azure Monitor, and Log Analytics.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and version control (e.g., Git) for data models, pipelines, and AI integrations.
  • Contribute to architecture reviews and support the evolution of CaterTrax’s AI-first data platform.
  • Ensure data governance, lineage, and compliance using tools such as Microsoft Purview and Fabric Data Governance, enhanced with automated AI tagging and policy validation.
  • Provide support for data-related incidents and troubleshoot across the full stack.
  • Design, build, and optimize robust data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory, driven primarily by AI tools and copilots.
  • Develop and manage Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards, including embedded AI visualizations and natural language querying (e.g., via Copilot).

SKILLS AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and Azure Data Services (Synapse, ADLS, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory)
  • Strong skills in SQL and Python; working knowledge of DAX and M
  • Familiarity with medallion architecture, data lakehouse patterns, and semantic modeling
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools for development, including: GitHub Copilot, Fabric Copilot, Azure OpenAI
  • Experience with CI/CD practices for data pipelines using GitHub Actions
  • Familiarity with monitoring/logging using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and optionally Application Insights
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

5+ years in data engineering, including:

  • 2+ years working directly with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI
  • Experience with AI/ML model integration into production data workflows

Prior use of AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Azure OpenAI, or Fabric Copilot in engineering tasks

COMPENSATION:

Starting at $100,000 based on experience
