Who we’re looking for
We are seeking a Data Platform Engineer to join our team within Security and IT Infrastructure Services. This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership, for someone with proven data engineering experience who wants to shape how a data platform is designed, built and kept healthy.
Our Snowflake platform holds trillions of rows of security and infrastructure data and ingests billions more every day. It underpins the metrics, data products and applications used to understand and manage technology risk across Schroders.
You will look after the platform and the pipelines that feed it, and build the monitoring and automation that keep it trustworthy, so that issues are caught and fixed before they affect users. You will work independently and help shape the team’s technical direction through solution design, engineering standards and mentoring.

Technology at Schroders
There's a huge amount of change going on at Schroders. Technology's shaping our business more and more, so there are many opportunities waiting to be grabbed. And because we're a big financial player, we can put hefty backing behind good ideas.
We're a serious business – we have enormous responsibilities to our clients and shareholders. But just because we're suited and booted, that doesn't make us stuffy; our tech teams are friendlier and more informal than you might expect.
The base
We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We’re close to our clients, in the heart of the UK’s financial centre. And we have everything we need to work flexibly.
The team
At Schroders, safeguarding our digital landscape is more than a responsibility—it’s a strategic enabler. The Information Security and Infrastructure Data Insights Team plays a pivotal role in this mission by transforming complex infrastructure and security data into actionable intelligence that empowers decision-making across the organisation.
We combine deep technical expertise with a data-driven mindset to proactively identify risks, uncover operational inefficiencies, and support strategic initiatives.
We champion innovation and excellence, leveraging cutting-edge analytics, automation, and visualisation tools to deliver insights that matter. As part of the Security & IT Infrastructure Services, we collaborate closely with teams across Cyber Security, Technology Risk, and IT Infrastructure Services to ensure delivery of secure Infrastructure services.
What you’ll do
Data platform
- Own and evolve the team’s Snowflake data platform, keeping it reliable, performant and cost-effective, and making sure changes reach production safely
- Design data models and data products that are well documented, reusable and easy for others to build on
- Manage access to the platform and protect sensitive data, applying least-privilege and data governance principles
Monitoring and reliability
- Build clear visibility into platform and pipeline health, data freshness, quality and cost, giving the team the information it needs to act early
- Apply statistical and machine-learning techniques to spot unusual data patterns, including issues that may otherwise go unnoticed
- Automate detection, alerting and safe recovery of common issues, and give the wider team the tools to investigate and fix problems themselves
- Trace how data is used downstream, so affected users can be alerted when freshness or quality issues arise
- Lead the investigation and resolution of production issues, fixing root causes so that problems do not recur
Data engineering
- Design, build and operate reliable, scalable data pipelines across the team’s ingestion and orchestration tools
- Onboard new data sources from across Cyber Security and IT Infrastructure, choosing the right ingestion and loading pattern for each
- Turn security and infrastructure data into data products that help the business understand and reduce risk
Architecture and technical leadership
- Help shape the platform’s architecture and lead the design of new data solutions, weighing up options, trade-offs and risks
- Work with teams across Technology to understand their needs and keep the platform aligned with Schroders’ wider data strategy and standards
- Promote engineering best practice across the team, contribute to its standards and mentor more junior engineers
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
- Data engineering experience, including hands-on work on a production data platform at scale
- Strong Snowflake experience, including RBAC, tasks and streams, secure views and masking, and performance and cost management
- A solid understanding of data warehousing and data modelling, including layered architectures and incremental loading
- Strong Python and SQL, with experience building production-grade data pipelines
- Experience building monitoring, alerting and data quality checks for data platforms, and supporting them in production
- Experience applying software engineering best practice, such as version control with Git, code review, testing and CI/CD, in a regulated environment
- A good understanding of data governance, security and access management, including privileged access and handling sensitive data
- Experience producing solution designs, explaining technical trade-offs and reviewing others’ work
The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help
- Ingestion and orchestration tools such as Ansible, Apache NiFi or Cribl
- Docker, Kubernetes and AWS services such as S3, Lambda, Step Functions and SageMaker
- Working with Cyber Security and Infrastructure data, such as ServiceNow, Entra ID and Active Directory
- Applying machine learning or AI to operational problems, such as anomaly detection
- AI-assisted development with tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code
- Streamlit and Power BI
- A Snowflake or architecture certification, such as SnowPro Core or AWS Solutions Architect
What you’ll be like
- A curious, pragmatic problem-solver who fixes root causes, not just symptoms.
- A systems thinker who considers how each change affects the wider platform and its users.
- A drive to automate, with little patience for doing the same manual task twice.
- Confidence explaining technical decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
- A commitment to sharing knowledge and helping others in the team grow.
