Job DescriptionWe’re looking for a Lead Data Engineer with strong expertise in SQL, dbt, and Athena, with experience building modern data transformation and ELT solutions. Experience with AWS data services is a plus, but the primary focus will be on developing and optimizing Athena SQL queries and dbt workflows.
This is a client-facing leadership role, ideal for engineers who combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills and a proactive mindset. You will play a key role in building reliable, scalable, and high-quality data pipelines that support critical business and analytics workflows.
Qualifications
What will you be doing?
Lead the design and implementation of data ingestion and transformation solutions using SQL and dbt, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Own the development of end-to-end ELT pipelines using dbt and Athena to transform and process data from multiple sources.
Design and enforce data quality frameworks, including validation rules, testing strategies, and monitoring.
Apply and drive Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) best practices across data pipelines.
Develop and optimize Athena SQL queries and dbt models to support scalable data transformation and analytics workflows.
Develop and enhance data validation and ingestion frameworks, including UI components (Streamlit-based) when needed.
Act as a technical leader, guiding best practices in SQL, dbt, data engineering, governance, and pipeline reliability.
Proactively identify risks, bottlenecks, and data quality issues, and implement mitigation strategies before they impact delivery.
Drive documentation and continuous improvement of data platform processes.
Qualifications
What are we looking for?
5+ years of experience in Data Engineering (strong senior-level or lead mindset expected).
Strong hands-on experience with SQL (Must).
Strong hands-on experience with dbt (Must).
Strong experience building ELT pipelines and data transformation solutions.
Strong experience working with AWS Athena and writing complex SQL queries.
Solid understanding of data modeling and large-scale data processing.
Experience with AWS services and data platforms (Plus)
Experience with tools such as Glue, S3, EMR, Lambda, Terraform, or CloudFormation (Plus).
