The Data Engineer IV leads the design, development, and optimization of data systems across the organization, partnering with Architects, Product, and peers to address the most complex data challenges. The role functions with the highest degree of autonomy, setting technical direction, establishing standards and best practices, and influencing organization-wide strategy and practices. The Data Engineer IV defines and standardizes data ingestion, storage, and integration approaches and leads highly integrated, complex data solutions across multiple teams, designing and optimizing systems across a broad range of technologies and cloud capabilities. The Data Engineer IV defines and advances data policies and governance controls to ensure compliance and continuous improvement across master data management and metadata management and provides strategic guidance to drive consistency, scalability, and long-term platform evolution across the organization.
Essential Job Functions:
- Defines and drives adoption of DIA standards and strategies for data ingestion, integration, storage, processing, transformation, and modeling across systems and platforms
- Establishes and advances data quality, reliability, and monitoring strategies, driving automation and preventive improvements to ensure scalable, resilient data systems
- Leads the design and standardization of highly integrated data solutions across teams, providing strategic guidance and ensuring consistency across a broad range of technologies and cloud capabilities
- Drives analytics enablement strategy, ensuring scalable, high-performance data access and overseeing metrics, data product development, and usability across the organization
- Partners with cross-functional leaders to align and implement security and access strategies, ensuring compliance through governance controls and consistent application across data systems
- Defines and influences infrastructure and technology strategy, establishing standards, evaluating emerging technologies, and driving adoption across teams
- Leads cross-functional collaboration and communication, translating complex technical concepts, influencing strategy, and integrating business and data priorities
- Oversees solution delivery and operational strategies across initiatives, driving Agile adoption, improving delivery standards, and optimizing documentation and stewardship practices across the organization
- Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related quantitative or technical field required.
- 10+ years of relevant hands-on experience in data management or data engineering disciplines required, including areas such as data integration, data modeling, data optimization, data quality, or related responsibilities.
- Experience in a healthcare industry environment preferred.
- Deep expertise in modern data platforms and storage solutions, establishing and standardizing scalable enterprise data architectures and patterns across systems
- Establishes and standardizes data ingestion, integration, and orchestration patterns, guiding and influencing implementation across teams.
- Expert-level SQL and programming proficiency, setting best practices for querying, transformation, automation, and performance optimization using languages such as Python.
- Defines architecture and standards for analytics enablement, including scalable dataset design, data modeling, transformation approaches, and analytics performance optimization.
- Establishes and drives enterprise data trust strategy, including data quality, governance, security, and reliability practices to ensure compliant, high‑performing data systems.
- Leads resolution of the most complex and ambiguous data challenges, providing technical direction and improving system‑wide performance and reliability.
- Leads cross-functional collaboration and influences technical direction, translating complex concepts and aligning stakeholders across teams, platforms, and domains.
- Integrates business and technical strategy, ensuring data solutions align to organizational priorities and enable enterprise‑level decision‑making.
- Evaluates and drives adoption of new technologies, standards, and best practices, guiding implementation and continuous improvement across teams.
- Demonstrates deep expertise in enterprise data platforms and healthcare data environments.

$117,520.00-$193,918.40 SalaryAt Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.
