Our current enterprise environment consists of multiple stand-alone Postgres 14 databases. PostgreSQL is deployed using docker in some cases and Kubernetes with Crunchy PGO in other cases.
Only Linux operating systems are used.
As the Data Engineer you will be required to work in a dynamic environment with software developers, the DB team, System admin and the Network Team. The ability to work with minimal supervision and the ability to work in a team in an agile environment is a must!.
Are you passionate about open source technologies? This role requires someone who has fully embraced open source technologies.
Prior exposure to alternative DB technologies such as Time Series optimized databases like TimescaleDB would be beneficial.
Do you have experience and innovative ideas in database administration, data replication, DevOps and middle-tier administration? These attributes would be highly advantageous.
As the Database Engineer you will provide database administration/application support to the entire system development life cycle. In conjunction with relevant team members you will be responsible for daily operations, monitoring, backup and recovery, performance tuning, installation, configuration and patching of databases.
In addition this role plays an important part to assist the data analysis team with optimization of queries and data structures.
As the Data Engineer you will be required to work with System Analysts and the Data Manager to review and optimize logical data models/database scripts and implement them into the physical database.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Hands-on experience in database administration and performance tuning. 4+ years’ technical knowledge and experience with Postgres in a production setting and JSON/JSONB features.
- NoSQL database experience, such as MongoDB is a plus.
- PostgreSQL Development experience is required
- Experience with Shell Scripting
- Experience with SQL development, data modeling and database security.
- Experience with Database backup, disaster recovery processes and procedures.
- Experience with SQL tools as required for the database solution such as pgAdmin or DataGrip.
- Experience with git or other source control software.
- An understanding of the Agile framework and the DevOps approach.
- Experience researching software & technology and making recommendations on their use.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Very good communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Experience responding to and resolving database access and performance issues.
- Experience interpreting database error messages and the ability to execute recovery of the database instance, data or other pertinent database components
