Purpose of the role

To build and maintain the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes to ensure that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure. 

Accountabilities

  • Build and maintenance of data architectures pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete and consistent data.
  • Design and implementation of data warehoused and data lakes that manage the appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to the required security measures.
  • Development of processing and analysis algorithms fit for the intended data complexity and volumes.
  • Collaboration with data scientist to build and deploy machine learning models.

You will design and scale state of the art data platforms that power critical business insights, regulatory compliance, and advanced analytics across the enterprise. To be successful as a Data Engineer - AVP, you should have:

  • Considerable hand-on experience working with large scale data platforms, delivering cloud-based data solutions with measurable business impact

  • Solid understanding of distributed computing and data architecture paradigms, with practical experience on AWS data platforms, including Glue, Lambda, S3, Redshift, Athena, and Databricks.

  • Experience designing and building batch data ingestion and transformation pipelines for large datasets

  • Ample understanding of IAM roles, cloud security, and AWS infrastructure, including secure data access patterns

  • Programming ability in Python and PySpark, along with advanced SQL skills, including query tuning and performance optimization

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Validated capability in data modelling and schema design, supporting analytics, reporting, and downstream consumption

  • Experience working with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins and GitLab, embedding quality and automation into delivery

  • Sound knowledge of data governance standards, metadata oversight, and data quality frameworks, like Alation, Glue Data Quality, data mesh concepts

  • Comfortable working in Agile delivery environments, using project coordination tools and collaborating across engineering and business teams

  • Ability to propose and influence solution level architecture for diverse technology and business use cases

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role is located in our Whippany, NJ office.

Minimum Salary: $120,000
Maximum Salary: $175,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above include only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

Barclays employees are eligible for a suite of competitive and generous employee benefits, including medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k), life insurance, and other paid leave for qualifying circumstances.

This position is eligible for an incentive award.

Skills Required
