Role: Data Architect - Alibaba Cloud

Experience Level: 7+ yrs

Work Location: US/Canada (Remote)

Role Overview:

We’re looking for an experienced Data Architect with deep Alibaba Cloud (AliCloud) expertise to design and lead modern, scalable, cloud-native data platforms for global enterprise clients. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex data challenges, architecting large-scale distributed systems, and building secure, high-performing data ecosystems that enable analytics, AI, and business insights.

You’ll partner closely with engineering, DevOps, analytics, and business stakeholders to define data strategy, architect robust solutions, and deliver reliable, cost-efficient platforms using Alibaba Cloud services and modern data engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and architect scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms and architectures on Alibaba Cloud

• Lead the development of modern data ecosystems including data lakes, warehouses, streaming pipelines, and real-time analytics solutions

• Architect and implement solutions leveraging Alibaba Cloud services such as MaxCompute, DataWorks, OSS, ECS, RDS, PolarDB, AnalyticDB, ACK (Kubernetes), Function Compute, and SLB

• Define data models, governance frameworks, security standards, and best practices for enterprise-grade data environments

• Build and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines and batch/streaming ingestion workflows

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable, reliable, and compliant data solutions

• Establish Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD practices for automated deployment and management of data infrastructure

• Optimize platform performance, reliability, and cost efficiency through monitoring, tuning, and continuous improvement

• Lead cloud modernization and migration initiatives from AWS, Azure, or GCP to Alibaba Cloud data platforms

• Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, standards development, documentation, and mentorship

• Troubleshoot complex production issues and ensure high availability of mission-critical data systems

Basic Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or cloud data platform design

• Hands-on experience architecting and deploying data solutions within Alibaba Cloud (AliCloud) environments

• Strong expertise in data modeling, distributed systems, and large-scale data processing

• Experience designing data lakes, data warehouses, and analytics platforms

• Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Java, Scala, or similar)

• Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks and orchestration tools

• Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.)

• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/ACK)

• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD, and automated deployments

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across technical and business teams

Other Qualifications (OQs):

• Alibaba Cloud certifications or advanced expertise across core AliCloud services

• Experience with big data and analytics services such as MaxCompute, DataWorks, Flink, Spark, or similar platforms

• Experience with real-time/streaming architectures (Kafka, Flink, etc.)

• Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, ROS, or similar)

• Experience designing multi-region or globally distributed data platforms

• Knowledge of data governance, security, privacy, and compliance frameworks

• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (CloudMonitor, Prometheus, Grafana)

• Consulting or professional services experience working directly with enterprise clients

• Exposure to AI/ML or advanced analytics use cases is a plus
