About Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT)

The mission of IYT is to increase the number of young men of color to attend and graduate from community colleges and universities. We envision a nation in which young men of color are overrepresented in higher education, underrepresented in the criminal justice system, and are leaders in their communities.

IYT is a national organization operating across multiple states and regions, partnering with schools and communities to build Brotherhood, college-going culture, and structured pathways from 6th grade through college completion. We believe that a college degree is a pathway to opportunity — and that every brother deserves a team of committed adults in their corner.

About AmeriCorps VISTA
AmeriCorps is a federal agency that engages individuals in paid community service with nonprofits, schools, and public agencies to meet pressing local needs. In return for their term of service, members receive a living allowance and may earn an education award upon completion. As a VISTA Volunteer, you’ll take on meaningful, hands-on work that drives long-term change in areas like education, public health, climate resilience, and access to essential services. From grant writing and research to fundraising and community volunteer engagement, you’ll build real-world experience while developing leadership skills that set you apart.

Position Overview

This VISTA member will build lasting data literacy, AI readiness, data quality, and release quality capacity across IYT’s Shared Services departments and eight regions. The aim is for staff serving students to spend less time resolving data and system problems, to use AI tools safely and effectively, and for IYT’s student and program data to stay reliable enough to guide decisions and meet funder requirements long after the member’s term ends.

Title: IYT Data and AI Literacy VISTA

Program Start/End Date:  January 11, 2027 through January 2028

Work Schedule: Full Time

Reports to: Director of Data Engineering & IT

Benefits

As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, you'll receive a living allowance to cover basic expenses during your term of service, along with health coverage, and — upon successful completion of your 12-month term — the choice between a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or a cash stipend. Additional support may include relocation assistance, childcare assistance for eligible members, student loan forbearance, and non-competitive eligibility for federal jobs for up to one year after service. Members also gain access to AmeriCorps VISTA's national training network and professional development resources, along with direct mentorship from IYT leadership throughout the term.

Living Stipend Amounts

  • $957.46 (Pre-tax) Bi-weekly stipend for 40 hours per week

Stipend and education award amounts are estimates (before taxes)

Responsibilities:
Over the service term, the member will design, pilot, and formalize three durable resources:

  • Training & AI Literacy Library (Jan–Jun 2027) — Research the highest-volume questions and workflows across Shared Services departments through staff surveys and request data, and map where AI tools could reduce time spent on them. Map the Salesforce objects, fields, and reports those workflows depend on into a plain-language data reference. Design and create a library of self-paced training modules built on that reference, including AI modules and a prompt library that apply IYT's AI acceptable use standards for student data.
  • Regional Data Stewardship Program (Feb–Jul 2027) — Evaluate current data-entry patterns to identify the most error-prone workflows. Design a site- and region-level data quality scorecard, and create data-entry standards for priority workflows. Establish a data steward role in each region, develop a steward orientation, and launch the first steward cohort.
  • User Acceptance Testing Framework (Apr–Aug 2027) — Design test script templates, a bug-reporting format, and a pre-release checklist. Establish a user acceptance testing process that engages regional stewards as field testers. Pilot the process on two Salesforce releases and refine it based on results.
  • Formalization & Sustainability (Jul–Aug 2027) — Formalize the training library, prompt library, scorecard, steward program, and testing process into documented SOPs. Transition ownership of each to a named Data Engineering & IT staff member. Produce a sustainability plan describing how each resource will be kept current after the term.
