We're looking for an intern to join our Data & Analytics Platform team! In this role, you’ll be participating in a variety of small projects aimed at improving efficiency and decision making across our business. Activities include automating workflows using both deterministic and generative components, building model prototypes, and enhancing platform features to support common use cases. Working closely with people across the business to turn challenges into solutions, you will also have a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the FinTech industry.
 

What you’ll do at Avant:

• Work with platform engineers to write, test, and deploy code that drives critical business processes

• Partner with internal customers across the business to solve problems and prototype ideas using leading automation tools, traditional machine learning, and generative model workflows.

• Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and team meetings in an agile development environment

• Be a part of a strong culture of ownership, pragmatism, and testing

Why you’re at fit at Avant:

• You are an Undergraduate student majoring in Data Science, Computer Science, or a comprehensive field

• You have excellent communication skills. You must be able to speak about the tools of your trade at an appropriate level based on your audience. Making your customer feel heard and included is critical to the long-term success of your projects.

• You are curious and eager to learn. You will need to rapidly familiarize yourself with business concepts in order to translate customer requirements into actionable plans. It is likely that your projects will involve the use of new tools, technologies, and methodologies.

• You have experience in some combination of traditional machine learning, agentic/generative workflows, application development, and data engineering. Nobody will be an expert in everything that our team touches; we value generalists.

• You have strong feelings about design and user experience.

• You understand the importance of testing and observability

This role is based on our downtown Chicago Office, located in the Merchandise Mart. We highly value collaboration and our hybrid schedule (M, T, Th in-office) enables flexibility to balance work and individual priorities.

Compensation Range:

The base salary range for this job is USD $36 - USD $42/ hour

Employees will be evaluated for any new role at their current level. Employees new to a role typically come in below the midpoint of the pay range. The posted compensation range is based on the level outlined in the job posting, and compensation decisions are dependent on each applicant's experience, skills and abilities.
