About the Position:
This position supports Intuitive Machine’s Lunar Data Analytics group, including the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) and Shadow Cam Science Operations Center (SOC).
Responsibilities:
- Produce high-resolution digital terrain models of the lunar surface using SocetSet and SocetGXP by BAE Systems.
- Assist LROC and ShadowCam science team members with data processing tasks to advance data production, research, and exploration.
- Maintain and develop new tools and procedures for data processing and analysis.
- Compile and distill information from remotely sensed planetary images to be included in research papers, posters and talks presented at meetings.
- Support our education and public outreach efforts through events on campus, off-site, and virtually for ages preschool through adults.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator, Science Operations Center Manager, or RDR Manager.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., planetary science, GIS and remote sensing, or computer science), with 2–5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Basic knowledge of remote sensing techniques and data.
- Programming or scripting experience (i.e., Python, bash, R, Matlab)
- Ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization and documentation skills.
- Ability to remain detail-oriented while working on large data sets.
- Demonstrated ability to identify problems and develop mitigation procedures.
- Experience performing or aiding with research (generating data, performing analysis, and interpreting results).
- Knowledge of statistics and data characterization/classification methods.
Technical Knowledge:
- Knowledge of image processing concepts and techniques.
- Experience using AI/ML for image classification, feature extraction, and/or GeoAI.
- Experience with planetary data sets, especially LROC or ShadowCam data sets.
- Experience with photogrammetry.
- Experience with databases, especially PostgreSQL/PostGIS queries.
- Experience with the UNIX command line.
- Experience with the Imaging Software for Imagers and Spectrometers from the USGS and/or Ames Stereo Pipeline.
Working Environment
- In-person position in an office setting.
- Ability to effectively use computers, including 3D stereo monitors, to input, review, and retrieve information for extended periods of time.
- Open and shared office space.
