Senior Manager, Cloud Innovation

As the Senior Manager for Cloud Innovation, you will lead collaboration within the organization for public and private cloud initiatives to define Intelsat's hybrid-cloud architecture globally. Your initial focus will be the software-defined datacenters to be deployed for Intelsat's next-gen network program, and you will lead other cloud initiatives to create new products and services.
Your role in helping us shape the future:
As a people leader and subject-matter expert for cloud architecture, you will define and present a clear roadmap to evolve Intelsat's cloud architecture toward the use of software-defined technologies that automate cloud operations with a standards-compliant architectures. Successful execution of the cloud technology roadmap will be ensured with your leadership across the organization. To achieve the desired results, you will be lead cloud development through ideation and planning toward implementation and launch.
Are you up to the challenge?

  • Align technology initiatives with the corporate strategy, and communicate this strategy with key stakeholders to lead cloud innovation through the development lifecycle
  • Lead collaboration with other technology leaders to author cloud RFPs
  • Define public and private cloud solutions for Intelsat's next-gen software-defined network
  • Lead product enablement of new network services that rely upon cloud infrastructure
  • Identify technologies, systems and processes to reduce CAPEX and OPEX, then create technical documentation and presentations to effectively communicate your ideas
  • Lead ideation of datacenter architectures and identify the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to benchmark alternative solutions for Intelsat's cloud infrastructure
  • Oversee the evaluation of new cloud technologies, with thorough test plans to be executed in collaboration with the Development Engineering team
  • Participate in ETSI, ONF and CORD to ensure compliance with relevant standards for disaggregation and network virtualization within Intelsat's global cloud
  • Provide subject-matter expertise for Intelsat's technology roadmap, including datacenter architecture and orchestration of virtual network functions within Intelsat's global network
  • Collaborate with other SMEs to design cloud infrastructure that integrates seamlessly with Intelsat's IP/MPLS network and 3GPP mobile network of the future
  • Collaborate with the technical leads for business process automation, network and service orchestration, to allocate cloud resources in concert with other systems
  • Perform all managerial and leadership functions including but not limited to: goal development; performance and rewards management and coaching
  • Mentor other cloud engineers to help foster their professional development
  • Ideation of new products and services to be enabled with cloud infrastructure
  • Select cloud technologies to address key business challenges
  • Architecture, development and testing of cloud infrastructure
  • Inclusion of space-based platforms with new industry standards for network function virtualization, as well as orchestration of satellite infrastructure and services


You should definitely have:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or technology
  • At least 10-years of relevant experience designing and deploying cloud architectures, plus 5 years of technical leadership experience
  • Technical expertise for datacenter virtualization, containers and orchestration of VNFs/CNFs within a hybrid cloud environment that is global in scale
  • The ability to provide technical leadership for cross-functional teams, drive resolution of complex problems, and build consensus to move projects forward on schedule
  • Deep technical understanding of datacenter virtualization with containers, Kubernetes, microservices and cluster computing within public and private cloud infrastructure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present effectively to senior leadership, influence stakeholders and garner their support
  • Experience with the virtualization of key network functions to be used for Intelsat's next-gen SDN: SatComm platform, 3GPP mobile network, content delivery networks, etc.
  • Knowledge of ETSI NFV, ONF/CORD and other relevant standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, etc.)
  • This role is subject to ITAR/EAR; candidates must be a US Person (this includes US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Individual such as an asylee or refugee).


It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience building and managing a small team
  • Experience working with Standards Definition Organizations
  • Experience leading architecture and development of software-defined datacenters
  • Knowledge of architectures and solutions for Mobile Edge Computing (MEC)
  • Technical expertise with Network Function Virtualization and Software-Defined Network technologies: Linux, CentOS, SRIOV, DPDK, OpenStack, VMWare, KVM, Rancher, OVS, JSON, REST, YANG, NetConf, RestConf, OSI model, Ethernet, IP, UDP/TCP
  • Understanding cloud architectures for space-based communications networks
